I'm happy to report that I got all the custom fonts working with epub, following the instructions on the wiki. Also I got rid of the huge gaps on the bottom by setting the widows and orphans to 0 in the stylesheet.
The Bookerly is working too, with both formats. Now the epubs look really good. But I'll have to decide which format I want to use... The map in the epub can't be zoomed in, but the typography looks somewhat better (I use justified text). There's not much difference in speed, at least I haven't noticed so far. Reading stats and time left aren't important for me. Eh, decisions... Btw, I installed some nice custom screensavers, while I was at it. Don't particularly care for book covers as screensavers. Many thanks again to all who helped and instructed. ![]() |

Do you notice the screen is warmest on the left and coolest on the right with comfort light on and slightly brighter on the right without? It's a very smooth transition on mine, but I'll turn it and try another is it's not like that on every unit.

Yep. Several people including me reported this issue. I've already returned it once only to get another one with the same problem. I've reported it to kobo as this is not how it should be.

To be honest, frontlights are something that all manufacturers can't seem to get exactly right - there can be plenty of variation between devices, and users' opinions vary as well: some won't notice, some will focus on even the slightest sign of unevenness. If it's something minor that doesn't bother you, I would just leave it. |

The 3 Libras I tried all had this same issue. Way darker on the side of the buttons. It bothers me, but I've still decided to ignore it because I love the rest of the device so much.

Looks like it's out of stock in US sites.

I have an Aura HD. I really like it, but I find the screen quite grey at times, even with the screen light on. I also find it rather uncomfortable to hold for long periods.
For those in the know, is the Libra H2O a worthy upgrade in terms of my two key metrics? 1) is the screen less grey and the text sharper? 2) is the device more comfortable to hold? Thanks |

Here's my review! I'm coming from a Clara HD, so this review is kind of a comparison.
When I'm not in the market for an ereader, I basically don't pay attention to news about new devices. So I missed that the Forma has physical buttons. But, that said, I did notice when that Kindle came out with the spacious grip space and physical buttons, and I was jealous. And I said to myself that if Kobo ever had something similar, I'd get it. Lo and behold, the Libra basically copied that Kindle's design! So I pre-ordered and have now been using it since the 24th. I often read on the bus, where I am squished between people and only have one hand to hold the ereader. Or on the couch, when I have a toddler napping on me. So when using the Clara, I found that I would really like more grip space, and a way to turn pages without picking up a finger and tapping the screen. All that's to say that I really like the Libra's design. I find that my hand is much more relaxed when reading, because I am not struggling to grip the ereader without accidentally touching the screen. There is plenty of real estate. The page buttons are great - my only desire is that they didn't make any noise when clicked. But that's not a big deal. I also like the slightly larger screen size, compared to the Clara. Additionally, the on-screen items - progress through chapter at the top, progress through book at the bottom - are very non-intrusive. The font is very small and light. Back when I used to use a Kindle, I enjoyed reading with no progress info, because I found it distracting. But that's not an option with the Kobo software. So I'm glad that Kobo has toned down the fonts on this info. I haven't done any hacks or addons or whatever's out there. I haven't even looked into what's available. But maybe I should. This is not a thorough review, of course! Just wanted to note here that I find it a very comfortable ereader. I have a SleepCover for it, and I have no complaints. |

Available at Walmart (in white or black).
https://www.walmart.com/browse/kobo-...252253_1642575 Apparently Walmart is not going to update their walmart.com/kobo page anymore. Now, when I go there, I have to click the link "Kobo eRader Devices" (part way down on the left) to get to the page linked above. Last edited by rcentros; 09-30-2019 at 07:49 PM. |

Kobo added options to remove the header and footer a while ago. They changed the header and footer in 4.17.x and the options changed to match.
