Oh, yeah. This guy never met a comma (coma?) he liked. I mean, I'm all for straight, simple, declarative sentences, but I kinda like a smooth rhythm, too and that ain't happening here. (sigh).

I was sitting in the living room, minding my own business, when I heard an odd sound. Apparently, the storm window in our rear storm door decided it had enough and spontaneously destroyed itself. The glass was shattered, but the pane was intact ... until I opened the inside door and all the pieces collapsed onto the floor like thousands of glass jigsaw puzzle pieces.

So, I've been sweeping, indoors and out. I'm taking a break right now, but I'll go back over it with a shop-vac to make sure I've gotten all the little pieces.

Nothing hit it -- I suspect that 40 to 50 years of stress just finally got to be too much.

You're exactly right. I can't believe it; I HATE homonym errors. My only defense is, taking a scrip that's affecting my noggin. Thank god it's only for a few days. I'll fix it.

Nah. I'll own it, especially because I rant about homonym errors all the time. (I'm taking something that seems to affect my ability to think of words. It's horrifying to me, of all things! I've lived and died by words for 60+ years now, and HOMONYM errors? If this happened to me for real, not a medicine thing, I don't know what I'd do.)

Mortifying, though.

Clearly, shoot yourself to put yourself out of your own misery. (Really, we know it's always autocorrect at fault. )

Do you know for a fact it's a medicinal effect.

Strokes can leave a similar effect - including mini-strokes (Transient Ischemic Attack). Following a minor stroke, I was left with a problem with a specific group of words - aggravate, arrogate, exaggerate, aggregate etc. I know the word I want - e.g 'arrogate', but I will say, write or type another word - e.g. 'exaggerate' or 'gravitate'. A couple of neurologists have told me it's not an uncommon residual effect of strokes.

I would add that that particular problem diminished over several years, to the extent that I can now say its gone - i.e. the brain rewired itself. Yet, other mental faculties (short term memory, attention span etc) have gradually deteriorated over the same period.

Great, you're a huge comfort, too. Yes, my take on it, as this seemed to have come on VERY suddenly and hopefully will stop soon, is it's this prescription. (I just triple-checked that to make sure I didn't mean proscription...this is killng me!)

Oh, great. You know, I think it was the V&R thread where I mentioned that according to my typo-catcher, Grammarly (FWIW, if you do a s**tload of typing every day, in browsers, it's fantastic for finding dumb typos! The grammar part--dunno and not so much. That's not what I use it for. At least, it's not WHAT I've used it for...she said, now worried...), I've typed something like 7 million words in the last few years. I write a romance novel's worth of words (60K words) every 10 days.

The LAST thing I need is to be having to check every single thing I type, to make sure I haven't made homonym errors. Or anything else. It's...god. It's just horrifying.

For some reason, I always spell the word unnecessary as unneccesary if I don't have auto-correct. I've been spelling this word wrong for almost 25 years now.

I took a med a few years ago which also diminished my word ability. It's improving, though I still have some aphasia. I frequently have to describe the word or proper noun that I mean, even though it's just on the tip of my tongue (but won't come). So yes, it's quite possible for this to be chemically induced.

(See, right there ... I typed dimished when I know it should be diminished! It affects my previously never-thought-twice-about great spelling.)

i feel for you, Hitch. i took Prozac several years ago and it affected my short-term memory, my ability to think clearly, my ability to speak... i quit cold turkey one day after reading Potatoes Not Prozac. the effects were horrifying. i loved words, as well, back then.

it's taken years to get to where i'm at now. i try to stay as positive as possible now; when i'm in pain (psychologically or physically), i say loudly, "Day by day, in every way, I'm getting better and better." i say it throughout the day and it helps me feel a little better; my attitude improves a bit. 'hope that helps.

i apologize for being rude way back when (about a year ago). i was in a lot of psychological pain and i couldn't see clearly--what you were trying to say--until i reread my posts. for a time, i was an emotional pain body and very inconsiderate; i apologize for my hurtful words.

i wish you the best.
