Note: After the Funeral is Christie's original UK title. In the US, it was published as Funerals are Fatal. (I still own a paperback with that title.)

Also, it is the 25th novel featuring Hercule Poirot (if we exclude short story collections).

I don't know this author, but here's a box set. Right now, just listed on Amazon US for .99. Features DI Nathaniel Caslin.

From Fantastic Fiction:
Quote:
Penned in the style of the Crime Noir genre, Caslin is a deep character as flawed as he is brilliant, battling his own demons as much as those he is pitted against. Readers who enjoy gritty, atmospheric thrillers will find the series a must read.

It's only good for a couple of more hours because I'm travelling and couldn't check until now, but today's (Sunday's) Kindle UK Big Deal is 10 titles by Peter Robinson for £0.99 each.

Four early-ish titles in the John Cunningham/Three Oaks series by Gerald Hammond are on Kindle Countdown at both Kindle US and UK, for $0.99 and £0.99 each, respectively. If you're interested, you'll need to evaluate how patient you are - many Endeavour Media titles go free from time-to-time, but rarely, and for a brief time when they do. So you can grab these on Countdown, or wait for free....

Titles (great titles in this series, BTW, IMO) are:
  • Doghouse, #3
  • The Curse of the Cockers, #5
  • Sting in the Tail, #6
  • Mad Dogs and Scotsmen, #7
In addition, the first title in the series, Dog in the Dark, is long-term at $0.99 and £0.99 if you want to try the first in the series first. The links pull up all five, except for the Kindle US link for some reason doesn't snag Dog in the Dark, so it's listed separately.

Kindle US: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?sea...9&keyword=oaks
Kindle US, Dog in the Dark: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QM5XY51/
Kindle UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search/?s...9&keyword=oaks

Oh yeah, on Countdown for about 4 3/4 more days...

A bunch of titles in this series have dropped again to $0.99/£0.99 at Kindle US and UK as part of the Kindle Countdown program, for about 5 1/4 more days.

The link below is good for Kindle US, and here is a link for Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search/?...price-asc-rank

The Punishment She Deserves is the most recent (2018) in the Thomas Lynley series by Elizabeth George. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US - a nice price, especially for a latest-in-series.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073TKJ5S8
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...t-she-deserves

Quote:
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers and Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley are forced to confront the past as they try to solve a crime that threatens to tear apart the very fabric of a quiet, historic medieval town in England

The cozy, bucolic town of Ludlow is stunned when one of its most revered and respected citizens--Ian Druitt, the local deacon--is accused of a serious crime. Then, while in police custody, Ian is found dead. Did he kill himself? Or was he murdered?

When Barbara Havers is sent to Ludlow to investigate the chain of events that led to Ian's death, all the evidence points to suicide. But Barbara can't shake the feeling that she's missing something. She decides to take a closer look at the seemingly ordinary inhabitants of Ludlow--mainly elderly retirees and college students--and discovers that almost everyone in town has something to hide.

A masterful work of suspense, The Punishment She Deserves sets Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers and Inspector Thomas Lynley against one of their most intricate cases. Fans of the longtime series will love the many characters from Elizabeth George's previous novels who join Lynley and Havers, and readers new to the series will quickly see why she is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed writers of our time. Both a page-turner and a deeply complex story about the lies we tell, the lies we believe, and the redemption we need, this novel will be remembered as one of George's best.

I've had a chance to read ARCs of the first two titles in Andrea Carter's Inishowen series. I liked both books - I found the mysteries themselves suitably puzzling, if a bit bleak, but I enjoyed the setting and sense of the remote Inishowen peninsula even more. Treacherous Strand, the second in the series, has now dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable), and the first title, Death at Whitewater Church, is still $0.99 at Kindle US (but not on sale at Kobo US).

Death at Whitewater Church, #1, at Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DZ1WHP3/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Perfect for fans of Louise Penny, P. D. James, and Donna Leon

When a skeleton is discovered in the hidden crypt of a deconsecrated church, everyone is convinced the bones must be those of Conor Devitt, a local man who went missing on his wedding day six years previously. But the postmortem reveals otherwise.

Solicitor Benedicta “Ben” O’Keeffe is acting for the owners of the church, and although an unwelcome face from her past makes her reluctant to get involved, when Conor’s brother dies in strange circumstances shortly after coming to see her, she finds herself drawn in to the mystery. Whose is the skeleton in the crypt and how did it get there? Is Conor Devitt still alive, and if so, is there a link? What happened on the morning of his wedding to make him disappear?

Negotiating between the official investigation—headed up by the handsome but surly Sergeant Tom Molloy—and obstructive locals with secrets of their own, Ben unravels layers of personal and political history to get to the truth of what happened six years before.

Death at Whitewater Church is the first in a series of Ben O’Keeffe mysteries set on the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal, Ireland.

Treacherous Strand, #2, at Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TRD9Z31
and at Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/treacherous-strand-2
Spoiler:
Quote:
Perfect for mystery readers who enjoy character driven mysteries, with a strong female protagonist and a powerful sense of place

A woman’s body washes up on a remote beach on the Inishowen Peninsula. Partially clothed, with a strange tattoo on her thigh, she is identified as Marguerite Etienne, a French woman who has been living in the area. Solicitor Ben (Benedicta) O’Keeffe is consumed by guilt: for the second time in her life Ben has failed someone who needed her, with tragic consequences. When local sergeant Tom Molloy dismisses Marguerite’s death as the suicide of a disturbed and lonely woman, Ben cannot let it lie. Ben uncovers Marguerite’s strange past as a member of a French doomsday cult, which she escaped twenty years previously, but not without leaving her baby daughter behind. Disturbed by what appears to be chilling local indifference to Marguerite’s death, Ben pieces together the last few weeks of the French woman’s life in Inishowen. What she discovers causes her to question the fragile nature of her own position in the area, and she finds herself crossing boundaries—both personal and professional—to unearth local secrets long buried.

Treacherous Strand is the second in a series of mysteries set in the fictional town of Glendara on the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal with amateur sleuth, a tsolicitor Ben O’Keeffe. These atmospheric and immersive mysteries are being adapted as elevision series to be filmed in Inishowen.

Jane and the Ghosts of Netley is the 7th in the Jane Austen series by Stephanie Barron. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Ghosts-Netley...dp/B000FC1LQA/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/jan...osts-of-netley

Spoiler:
Quote:
In her seventh captivating adventure, Jane Austen finds her crime-solving mettle put to the test in a confounding case of intrigue, murder, and high treason. Among the haunted ruins of an ancient abbey, Jane is drawn into a shadow world of dangerous secrets and traitorous hearts where not only her life is at stake—but the fate of England.

As Jane Austen stands before the abandoned ruins of Netley Abbey, she imagines that ghosts really do haunt the centuries-old monastery. But the green-cloaked figure who startles her is all too human and he bears an unexpected missive from Lord Harold Trowbridge, one of the British government’s most trusted advisers—and a man who holds a high place in Jane’s life.Trowbridge tells Jane about a suspected traitor in their midst—and the disastrous consequences if she succeeds. But is Sophia Challoner, a beautiful widow with rumored ties to Emperor Bonaparte, really an agent of the enemy?

Dispatched to Netley Lodge, Jane sets about gaining the confidence of the mysterious and intriguing lady even as Trowbridge’s grim prediction bears fruit: a British frigate is set afire and its shipwright found with his throat cut. It’s clear that someone is waging a clandestine war of terror and murder. But before Jane can follow the trail of conspiracy to its source and unmask a calculating killer, the cold hand of murder will fall mercilessly yet again—and suddenly Jane may find herself dying for her country.

Elegantly intriguing, Jane and the Ghosts of Netley is a beautifully crafted novel of wit, character, and suspense that transports Jane and her many fans into a mystery of truly historical proportions—and a case that will test the amateur sleuth’s true colors under fire.
