So to access diagnostic mode in KT2 you have to login with username: root, password: mario. Did I sum it up right way?
Also can I do that with KT3

Not on a stock firmware. The RescuePack is responsible for enforcing the "mario" password.

Is there even a way to access diags mode without RP? In KT3

It's like this missing piece of information for me and this has been bugging me for so long that I finally bought a K3 today, used one. Without the Kindle, for more than a year, it has been hell my friend.
I fell in love with K3, though there will be limitations compared to what I could do with KT3

Involves a serial cable and dismantling the Kindle, then jailbreaking it.
Afterwards, it should be a matter of issuing the command idme -d --bootmode diags.

Yeah, no one with those new devices with a new partition layout has investigated getting something like RP/CRP to behave.
