Semiosis by Sue Burke is $2.99 at Amazon.com

Quote:
In this character driven novel of first contact by debut author Sue Burke, human survival hinges on an bizarre alliance.

Only mutual communication can forge an alliance with the planet's sentient species and prove that mammals are more than tools.

Forced to land on a planet they aren't prepared for, human colonists rely on their limited resources to survive. The planet provides a lush but inexplicable landscape--trees offer edible, addictive fruit one day and poison the next, while the ruins of an alien race are found entwined in the roots of a strange plant. Conflicts between generations arise as they struggle to understand one another and grapple with an unknowable alien intellect.
First of a two-part series.

While browsing amazon.fr, I found a couple of bargains, some of them probable repeat and probably available at low prices in most European stores.

Year One (Chronicles of The One) by Nora Roberts at 0.99 €.

A Game of Thrones: The Story Continues Books 1-5 by GRR Martin at 0.89 € for the five books.

I didn't check the Nora Roberts, but Kobo France also has the Game of Thrones omnibus for 0.89 €. Quite the deal if you're missing any of them.

Man, I can't believer the Baen Humble Bundle almost slipped by me (I get email notices of new Humble Bundles.) I only own one book in the whole lot (Weber's On Basilisk Station). And as I liked on Basilisk Station, and this bundle has a lot of Weber's stuff, I think I'll take a shot with it.

If you don't have _any_ of the others, the full bundle's a bargain.

I'm glad you mentioned this: there are a few Webers in there (plus other great stuff) that I now don't have to pay a premium for.

I just spotted that Gareth L Powell's BSFA Award-winning Embers of War is available on Prime Reading in the UK. I'm not really sure if Prime/KU/KOLL is appropriate for this thread, but I was pretty pleased to get a wishlist book for "free".

Thanks for the heads up, I got it, it is a very good value, although I did not get the full bundle, because I already had the ones at the higher price. Some of them come from the free library, I believe, or the free CDs. It might have made more sense to do the contrary, probably.

Can't pass this up! Even though I own it in paperback too. This book is just great. A must-read!

I'm posting the link to Arc Manor/Phoenix Picks Kickstarter campaign for the new Robert A. Heinlein ebook The Pursuit of the Pankera which is based on the original version of The Number of the Beast before a massive rewrite. The minimum to receive a copy of the ebook and to vote on the cover is $6.99 or $7 depending on how you access the site.

The link to the Kickstarter campaign is The Pursuit of the Pankera.

A gift certificate will be sent in time for Christmas while the actual electrons will be shipped in March, 2020.

Just wanted to add that due to legal restrictions, the Kickstarter campaign for The Pursuit of the Pankera is limited to North America.

What is not widely known is that The Number of the Beast not only deals with parallel universes, it is one of two 'parallel' books that Heinlein wrote with the same characters but different story-lines.

Heinlein had a wicked sense of humor and loved to experiment. How cool would it be to have two parallel texts about parallel universes?
Sounds a little bit like what Stephen King did with Desperation and The Regulators.

I'm not a Heinlein fan and the book doesn't sound that interesting to me. But I backed it anyway. It's a lost book by a legendary author. How could you be a sci-fi fan and not want to see it published?

I'm so bummed that I missed those specials on Diskworld! I did get Reaper Man, but didn't know the others were available. Sob.
