Lightbulb Book Conversion Settings for Kindle

Hi, I decided to make a list for myself of the steps I take when converting a book into caliber so that I don't forget something, then I decided to share it here in case someone else serves. Any comments or other critical comments are welcome.
  1. If I have a book or personal document in docx or doc format I open it in word and in the title I define that way I guarantee a perfect table of contents in caliber.
  2. I save it in rtf format for easy conversion.
  3. I add it to Caliber.
  4. If the book is in mobi or epub I add it to caliber
  5. I modify metadata manually with the option to modify metadata separately to be able to change everything that is wrong: such as the title, the name of the book or the series. For that I erase what is wrong.
  6. In the metadata I delete the ids I have to add the Amazon and the goodreads.
  7. I have previously installed the kindle hires cover plug-in (because it allows better cover)
  8. I give you download metadata
  9. I open it with the caliber book reader to see what errors it may have, for example separate lines, headings e.t.c.
  10. I convert it to azw3:
  11. in the appearance option, the test part changed the justification of the text to justify text.
  12. active improve score
  13. in active distribution remove spacing between paragraphs and leave the indentation size in 1
  14. In Page Setup, reduce left and right margins to 1.
  15. on active output the option to share the content via facebook.
  16. Then I use the hypenate this complement to divide the words at the end of the line and make the reading more natural: the same as we do when writing by hand. (The book must be selected, and in azw3 format to work)
  17. Then I use the goodreads plugin in the link to good reads option so that the book is linked to goodreads and can qualify it at the end of the reading and it appears as read there (so I keep track of what I have read).
  18. I use the add-on cover to match the size of the cover so that the miniature looks the same as the others.
  19. Finally, thanks to the KFX input and output plugins I convert the book to KFX to have the possibility of navigating within the document in the kindle (kindle flip page.)
There I send the book to the kindle.
I hope it is useful for someone.
Bye.

If you're going to share them you could think about making the book work for people on other devices, which all consume EPUB. I've been uploading books here and do all my editing in Sigil which is an EPUB editor, then use kindlegen to convert the EPUB to a dual MOBI (which contains the ancient MOBI7 as well as the AZW3 and works on both new and ancient devices), and then upload the EPUB and MOBI here. I do zero tweaking in Calibre; everything is done when editing/making the book in Sigil. I use Affinity Designer to make the simple covers, which are merely black text on a white background.

Sigil is an EPUB editor. It doesn't do anything with PDF. The point I was trying to make is that I start with an EPUB and do all my work with the EPUB. The EPUB is the master. I do all of the editing of the title, metadata, and whanot in Sigil. After I've done the editing and fixing of the EPUB then I convert it to AZW3. I use calibre for managing my library and sending books to my ereader.

I have to say your converting from ePub is not done in the most efficient way. By posting a dual-format Kindle eBook, you make it larger then it needs to be. Plus, given that the extension is .mobi, some people will think it's a Mobi format eBook. The best way to do it is to split the eBook into both KF8 & Mobi. This way, the preferred version can be downloaded and it will be smaller. Plus, it's easier to tell you are going a true Mobi if you choose the Mobi.

Hi from the end of April 2020! Here is a question - does this procedure also allow you to share quotes from the book to Goodreads? (I would also like it to do in Facebook, but I guess thats not possible)

Amazon removed the Facebook linking at the end of 2018.

I've no idea about the Goodread's plugin...didn't you ask in another thread about sideloaded books and sharing to Goodreads? Have you read through the info about that particular Calibre plugin?

I suggest posting in that Calibre forum. Posting in multiple threads and bumping older threads won't help you get helpful answers, it will just get harder to follow.

Thanks for your answer. Yes I did in the general Kindle forums here as I wasnt sure where I would get help from. I have read online that that plugin wouldnt do the trick and they gave the steps i linked in my beforementioned post. I guess you are right, I will try to see If I can get find some answers there. BTW the Quality Check plugin should do the trick and it also doesnt work on my side. Maybe I am doing something wrong...

The Goodreads Sync plugin can manage the shelves a book is in on GR, set the reading status and add comments or a review. It doesn't share quotes. From memory, there is no API too make it easy, and it isn't something I would use, so I haven't been interested in doing it. If someone wants to do the work, I'd be happy to help.
