Oh dear, now I am desperately searching for (but not finding) that "blushing" emoticon with pink cheeks....

The posting is actually pretty easy after I do the "research", which I'd do for myself anyway. But still, thank you so much for the compliment!

Listening Woman is the 3rd in the Leaphorn/Chee series by Tony Hillerman has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Part of my family is from New Mexico, mostly the area he writes about, so I'm a bit biased, but I really like this series.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FC12LE
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/listening-woman

Spoiler:
Quote:
The state police and FBI are baffled when an old man and a teenage girl are brutally murdered. The blind Navajo Listening Woman speaks of ghosts and of witches. But Lieutenant Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police knows his people as well as he knows cold-blooded killers. His incredible investigation carries him from a dead man's secret to a kidnap scheme, to a conspiracy that stretches back more than one hundred years. Leaphorn arrives at the threshold of a solution—and is greeted with the most violent confrontation of his career.

Self-Defense is the 9th in the Alex Delaware series by Jonathan Kellerman. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Additional note: For me, at least, this was eligible for the apparently-newly-renewed Kindle $5 off on some Penguin/Random House titles, so it was free for me. You can see more info on this very odd credit in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=321100

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FBFN8S
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/self-defense

Spoiler:
Quote:
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Dr. Alex Delaware doesn’t see many private patients anymore, but the young woman called Lucy is an exception. So is her dream. Lucy Lowell is referred to Alex by Los Angeles police detective Milo Sturgis. A juror at the agonizing trial of a serial killer, Lucy survived the trauma only to be tormented by a recurring nightmare: a young child in the forest at night, watching a strange and furtive act.

“Exciting . . . loaded with tension and packed with titillating insights.”—The New York Times Book Review

Now Lucy’s dream is starting to disrupt her waking life, and Alex is concerned. The power of the dream, its grip on Lucy’s emotions, suggests to him that it may be more than a nightmare. It may be the repressed childhood memory of something very real. Something like murder.

While looking for PRH titles on sale, I ran across A Kind of Anger by Eric Ambler, on sale for $2.99. It's not eligible for the PRH credit (for me, at least), but $2.99 is still a pretty good price.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Kind-Anger-Er...dp/B00A9ET5JY/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-kind-of-anger

Spoiler:
Quote:
Eric Ambler is at the top of his form with A Kind of Anger, which expertly combines a satire of paparazzi-driven media culture with a classic espionage tale filled with breathless suspense.

Six weeks ago, Lucia Bernardi fled the Swiss villa where her lover was murdered—and then she vanished. No one can find her: Not the police, who want her for murder; not the tabloids, who want her for her story; nor the real killers, who desperately want the papers she spirited away from the scene of the crime. Disgraced reporter Piet Maas stumbles upon Lucia, in hiding in the south of France. There he must decide whether to publish her story—reviving his career but guaranteeing her death—or to join in her perilous extortion scheme, and risk both their lives for the promise of profit.

And ditto for A Study In Scarlet Women, which is the first in the Lady Sherlock series by Sherry Thomas, on sale at $2.99.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Study-Scarlet...dp/B01ASO6JIY/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-s...-scarlet-women

Spoiler:
Quote:
USA Today bestselling author Sherry Thomas turns the story of the renowned Sherlock Holmes upside down in the first novel in this Victorian mystery series....

With her inquisitive mind, Charlotte Holmes has never felt comfortable with the demureness expected of the fairer sex in upper class society. But even she never thought that she would become a social pariah, an outcast fending for herself on the mean streets of London.

When the city is struck by a trio of unexpected deaths and suspicion falls on her sister and her father, Charlotte is desperate to find the true culprits and clear the family name. She’ll have help from friends new and old—a kind-hearted widow, a police inspector, and a man who has long loved her.

But in the end, it will be up to Charlotte, under the assumed name Sherlock Holmes, to challenge society’s expectations and match wits against an unseen mastermind.

Saturnalia, which is the 18th in the original Falco series by Lindsey Davis, has dropped to £2.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004OEIDES/

Spoiler:
Quote:
One of the stories from the bestselling historical fiction Falco series.

It is the Roman holiday of Saturnalia. The days are short; the nights are for wild parties. A general has captured a famous enemy of Rome, and brings her home to adorn his Triumph as a ritual sacrifice. The logistics go wrong; she acquires a mystery illness - then a young man is horrendously murdered and she escapes from house arrest.

Marcus Didius Falco is pitted against his old rival, the Chief Spy Anacrites, in a race to find the fugitive before her presence angers the public and makes the government look stupid. Falco has other priorities, for Helena's brother Justinus has also vanished, perhaps fatefully involved once more with the great lost love of his youth.

Against the riotous backdrop of the season of misrule, the search seems impossible and only Falco seems to notice that some dark agency is bringing death to the city streets...

While checking out Lindsey Davis, I also noticed that five Falco titles (9 - 12 and 16) are just $2.99 at Kindle US. These are Hachette editions, not Macmillan, just published in April 2019, and they've been $2.99 since then, so I assume something was/is going on with rights. In any case, I needed one of these, so I'm happy.

Titles are: Three Hands in the Fountain, Two for the Lions, One Virgin Too Many, Ode to a Banker, and Scandal Takes a Holiday.

I checked and it gives me the credit also, but calls it a "select author" credit. I can use the credit on some Jonathan Kellerman books but not all of them. But I can also use them on (some, but no all of) Sue Grafton's books (A is for Alibi, etc). So I just bought "P" is for Peril! Thanks!

If you dig through the other thread, it seems to work on some Penguin/Random House books (and subsidiary imprints) that are normally $9.99 or higher. But it has a "loophole" that if a $9.99 book is temporarily on sale, it will still work - hence the idea that it worked on Self-Defense, which was on sale at $1.99. Complicated, yes... Semi-random, yes... But still, free credits are nice.

It also seems to work twice, up to $10, and if you have some left over from applying the credit to a sale book at less than $5, it lets you apply the remainder to another eligible book.

And yes, mine was called "select author" this time, and "Kindle wish list" last time...

SOMETIMES WINNING FEELS AN AWFUL LOT LIKE LOSING.

Cab driver Chet Conway was hoping for a good tip from his latest fare, the sort he could spend. But what he got was a tip on a horse race. Which might have turned out okay, except that when he went to collect his winnings Chet found his bookie lying dead on the living room floor.

Chet knows he had nothing to do with it – but just try explaining that to the cops, to the two rival criminal gangs who each think Chet’s working for the other, and to the dead man’s beautiful sister, who has flown in from Las Vegas to avenge her brother’s murder…
