Eleventh Hour is the 8th in the Christopher Marlowe series by M. J. Trow. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071NLS99S
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/eleventh-hour-14

Spoiler:
Quote:
Christopher Marlowe must discover who murdered the queen’s spymaster in this absorbing historical mystery.

April, 1590. The queen’s spymaster, Sir Francis Walsingham, is dead, leaving a dangerous power vacuum. His former right hand man, Nicholas Faunt, believes he was poisoned and has ordered Kit Marlowe to discover who killed him. To find the answers, Marlowe must consult the leading scientists and thinkers in the country. But as he questions the members of the so-called School of Night, the playwright-turned-spy becomes convinced that at least one of them is hiding a deadly secret. If he is to outwit the most enquiring minds in Europe and unmask the killer within, Marlowe must devise an impossibly ingenious plan.

“Fans will welcome this bawdy, witty eighth adventure.” —Kirkus Reviews

“A crackling plot, strong characters, and plenty of twists.” —Booklist

There's another pair of John Gardner books going free at Amazon UK today. The first book was free a few years back.

The Secret Houses (Secret Trilogy #2)
Spoiler:
John Gardner's The Secret Generations was acclaimed as one of the classic works of Cold War espionage fiction.

The Secret Houses is its explosive sequel.

Two families - the Railtons in Britain and the Farthings in America - are at the heart of a titanic political struggle, their fates intertwined in the secret world of Intelligence by blood, love, loyalty and betrayal.

The British Secret Intelligence Service and the American Office of Strategic Services are locked in a desperate struggle to destroy the war machine that threatens the future of the world - and once again the Railtons and the Farthings are drawn into the secret struggle.

Both families are intimately concerned in the fate of the Tarot resistance network, operated by Caspar Railton under the nose of the ruthless SS officer Hans-Dieter Klaubert, known as the Devil of Orléans. Caspar has recruited his nieces Caroline and Jo-Jo as undercover agents in France, and their disappearance coincided with the break-up of Tarot.

The truth about Tarot and the fate of Caroline and Jo-Jo is at the heart of this enthralling installment of an Intelligence saga that has been hailed on both sides of the Atlantic as a classic of espionage fiction.

The Secret Families (Secret Trilogy #3)
Spoiler:
The Secret Families is the final shattering move in the trilogy, the checkmate from a grand master of espionage.

The year is 1964.

The Cold War is at its height and Caspar Railton, the 'wounded lion' of the Railton clan, which for decades has dominated British Intelligence, is dead.

Even worse, evidence has emerged suggesting Caspar was a traitor and suspicion surrounds not only the Railtons but also the Farthings, the American family of spymasters connected by marriage to their British counterparts.

Yet Naldo refuses to accept his uncle's guilt and is determined to clear both families' names.

With his cousin Arnold Farthing he embarks on a quest to uncover Caspar's past, a mission which takes both men deep into some of the most dangerous territory any agent can enter …

The Secret Families completes John Gardner's The Secret Generations trilogy, which is a giant work of fiction drawn from the dramatic history of Britain’s intelligence and security services.

Through the story of one family, the Railtons, whose lives become caught up in some of the greatest struggles of the twentieth century, Gardner traces the birth, the early clashes, the successes and failures of the organizations now known as M15, M16 and GCHQ.

Quote:
Stephanie Plum faces the toughest puzzle of her career in the twenty-fifth entry in Janet Evanovich's #1 New York Times-bestselling series.

There's nothing like a good deli, and the Red River Deli in Trenton is one of the best. World-famous for its pastrami, cole slaw, and for its disappearing managers. Over the last month, three have vanished from the face of the earth, and the only clue in each case is one shoe that's been left behind. The police are baffled. Lula is convinced that it's a case of alien abduction. Whatever it is, they'd better figure out what's going on before they lose their new manager, Ms. Stephanie Plum.

Metropolis is the 14th and last (since the author passed away last year) in the Bernie Gunther series by Philip Kerr. Although last published, it is, however, per SYKM, a prequel. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C7F7W5X

Spoiler:
Quote:
Berlin detective Bernie Gunther bows out at last in the 14th and final book of the Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling series. With an introduction by Ian Rankin.

'One of the greatest anti-heroes ever written' LEE CHILD

'One of the greatest master story-tellers in English' ALAN FURST

Berlin, 1928, the dying days of the Weimar Republic shortly before Hitler and the Nazis came to power. It was a period of decadence and excess as Berliners - after the terrible slaughter of WWI and the hardships that followed - are enjoying their own version of Babylon. Bernie is a young detective working in Vice when he gets a summons from Bernard Weiss, Chief of Berlin's Criminal Police. He invites Bernie to join KIA - Criminal Inspection A - the supervisory body for all homicide investigation in Kripo. Bernie's first task is to investigate the Silesian Station killings - four prostitutes murdered in as many weeks. All of them have been hit over the head with a hammer and then scalped with a sharp knife.

Bernie hardly has time to acquaint himself with the case files before another prostitute is murdered. Until now, no one has shown much interest in these victims - there are plenty in Berlin who'd like the streets washed clean of such degenerates. But this time the girl's father runs Berlin's foremost criminal ring, and he's prepared to go to extreme lengths to find his daughter's killer.

Then a second series of murders begins - of crippled wartime veterans who beg in the city's streets. It seems that someone is determined to clean up Berlin of anyone less than perfect. The voice of Nazism is becoming a roar that threatens to drown out all others. But not Bernie Gunther's ...

O Jerusalem is the fifth in Laurie R. King's excellent IMO Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Titles in this series tend to be really expensive in the US ($9-ish and up) when not on sale, and don't go on sale very often, so grab it while you can.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0027G6XCY
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/o-jerusalem-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
At the close of the year 1918, forced to flee England's green and pleasant land, Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes enter British-occupied Palestine under the auspices of Holmes' enigmatic brother, Mycroft.

"Gentlemen, we are at your service." Thus Holmes greets the two travel-grimed Arab figures who receive them in the orange groves fringing the Holy Land. Whatever role could the volatile Ali and the taciturn Mahmoud play in Mycroft's design for this land the British so recently wrested from the Turks? After passing a series of tests, Holmes and Russell learn their guides are engaged in a mission for His Majesty's Government, and disguise themselves as Bedouins--Russell as the beardless youth "Amir"--to join them in a stealthy reconnaissance through the dusty countryside.

A recent rash of murders seems unrelated to the growing tensions between Jew, Moslem, and Christian, yet Holmes is adamant that he must reconstruct the most recent one in the desert gully where it occurred. His singular findings will lead him and Russell through labyrinthine bazaars, verminous inns, cliff-hung monasteries--and into mortal danger. When her mentor's inquiries jeopardize his life, Russell fearlessly wields a pistol and even assays the arts of seduction to save him. Bruised and bloodied, the pair ascend to the jewellike city of Jerusalem, where they will at last meet their adversary, whose lust for savagery and power could reduce the city's most ancient and sacred place to rubble and ignite this tinderbox of a land....

Classically Holmesian yet enchantingly fresh, sinuously plotted, with colorful characters and a dazzling historic ambience, O Jerusalem sweeps readers ever onward in the thrill of the chase.

I also noticed that the first title in the series, The Beekeeper's Apprentice, dropped to $3.99 around the first of the month and unusally is still there, so possibly as part of the Kindle monthly deal ???, matched at Kobo.

Spoiler:
Quote:
The Twentieth-Anniversary Edition of the First Novel of the Acclaimed Mary Russell Series by Edgar Award–Winning Author Laurie R. King.

An Agatha Award Best Novel Nominee • Named One of the Century's Best 100 Mysteries by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association

In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees in Sussex when a young woman literally stumbles onto him on the Sussex Downs. Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes. Under his reluctant tutelage, this very modern, twentieth-century woman proves a deft protégée and a fitting partner for the Victorian detective. They are soon called to Wales to help Scotland Yard find the kidnapped daughter of an American senator, a case of international significance with clues that dip deep into Holmes's past. Full of brilliant deduction, disguises, and danger, The Beekeeper's Apprentice, the first book of the Mary Russell–Sherlock Holmes mysteries, is "remarkably beguiling" (The Boston Globe).

Say guys and gals, I notice that our sufue does not have an impressive karma total considering all her work for the benefit of us mystery buffs.

What do you say that all of us give her some karma when we buy one of her suggestions?
