The moment that I saw the post, I surmised that eStories had decided to discontinue the program altogether, but they found that it was causing them to lose business.

I, for one, had forgotten about eStories, altogether, as a vendor of audio books, since the time that they discontinued the daily deals. Having their daily deals being posted on MobileRead and on countless other websites, keeps their name in the forefront of people's minds.

In many of the B&M stores, and Internet stores, too, I suppose, there are these things called "loss leaders." They are products that the stores sell at _a loss_ (in other words, products that they lose money on), but utilize to get people in their stores and on their websites. The companies hope that the visitors will end up buying additional products, which the companies make a profit on, enough profit to offset their loss on the loss leaders. If they discontinue the loss leaders, this particular kind of store eventually will go out of business. Audio book stores may use daily deals as loss leaders.

Now I've "heard it all."

There is probably a "National Day" for everything. 365 days is probably not enough days for everything, so no doubt there is a lot of overlap. Today is almost certainly the "National Day" for several--maybe many--other things.

Wikipedia probably has a webpage devoted just to listing every thing that has a "National Day" (almost certainly sorted by date). It's bound to be "a hoot" (that may be a Southernism--it means something like "very funny" (but not a laughing kind of funny), and a little bit unusual or strange).

The problem is, IMHO, when there are so many "National Days" of this and that of a very trivial nature, it dilutes, in the minds of people, the signifance the "National Days" that are truly significant--"Pearl Harbor Day" is the first one that popped into my mind.

Down now has their daily "steal" up, a $22.95 (Ack!) tome. (If that's their "steal," I'd rather be law-abiding ). There is also a rental of the week, which I think is $1.95, maybe $2.95.

It's a place holder which is why I ignored it. They're not very consistent with their daily deals. The weekly rental is $1.99 and is posted.
