I'm still buying too many books (I'm up 17 on the start of the year). There are too many good offers, and I have 466 books on a watch list at uk.ereaderiq.com. But I've decided that I'm only going to buy a book, in addition to all the other criteria, if I'm actually going to read it almost immediately. Of the two books I've bought this month, I've already read one of them, and I'm just starting the other one. If I'm not going to read it almost immediately, I might as well wait around for it to go on offer again. I've edited the first post to add this thought in. I'm doing good at not getting the daily deals lately. I just say eff it, I don't need another book and move on. We'll see what happens next month with the Star Trek sales. I've even skipped some of those too. I mean when you have almost 400 books on your reader why do you need more? Gotta get books off of there rather than on! Finish and delete! It would take 10 years just to read what I already have.

But it looks like I'll end up June with fewer books bought than in May, which would be good.

My attitude lately is: I can afford to buy this for full price when I'm ready to read it; there's absolutely no reason to buy it now just because it's on offer.

Yeah that’s the thing. I’m just buying it cause it’s on sale. Well then I’ll just save money by not buying anything unless it’s something I really want to read right away.

I guess I just jinxed myself. Bought another David Baldacci book on sale. Dang Kobo Daily Deals. I guess I will read the first book next finally. I hope I like it!

I'd say I'm having more difficulties with sale stuff this month. Only a couple were part of series that I'm reading. Still, I have decided not to beat myself up over it. This is probably the last year that I will have a budget for books/audiobooks as I will have to hire people to do stuff that I used to be able to do (like snow shoveling) and the vet bills are getting higher as the 5 cats get older. Also probably the last year for Prime, so I'll lose those free books along with their $1.99 audio match. I've cut my watch list down to books that complete series I really want to complete. I can do this...... Last edited by Tarana; 06-23-2019 at 11:17 AM.

As long as it's a good action/thriller novel like it seems to be, it'll probably be fine! I bought the whole Memory Man series when they were Kobo Daily Deals. LOL Last edited by PurpleStar; 06-23-2019 at 12:11 PM.

Just got my credit card bill and oh my, I REALLY need to stop buying ebooks and audiobooks for awhile. You'd be amazed how small amounts (.99-$5.49) mount up over a month. Ouch. It is always sales that get me.

Only one bought in August so far though, which is excellent. But my change in commuting, while excellent from a time and financial point of view, has cut into my reading time. Instead of getting close to 200 books a year, I seem to be on course for only 120 read this year. Another reason why I really must cut down on my purchases.

It's so hard to resist $.99 to $2.99 sales on books that look interesting. Despite me having so many book already bought an not yet read......AND....my growing conviction that I'd rather spend my time reading better books (that often cost more)

I don't buy books just because they look interesting. I get them only if I've enjoyed the author. A few come free via Amazon Prime which is how I end up with new authors. I am in danger, however, of outliving my unread book collection, so trying to get that under control.

Also, whether they are more attractive than most of the books you've already bought but not read.

Tis true. It's not that I've found the cheap Amazon books unenjoyable. Just that when I then go and read a "same genre" book from a traditional publisher...they are just so much better. IMHO - which is all that matters since I'm only talking about what I will/should do. I really don't read enough books that the cost differential is the thing that matters. You are right about the "stop looking". Yet, Amazon has my number and is targeting me with adds via email, fb and twitter. |
