Exception at calibre start-up

Hi,

I have a library that, sometimes, when calibre starts, throws this exception: "TypeError: QAction(): arguments did not match any overloaded call"

and calibre ends. The next time it starts there is no problem. It only happens in a specific library (I have more than 10 with the same plugins, although not the same virtual libraries or views).

I don't know what to look at.

any special characters in that Library name (that are not in the others). ASCII PATHS are the most robust

Some of those plugins have library specific settings that are reflected in the drop down menu list (Actions) - e.g. View Manager list views by name, and they are library specific.

Aside: I also notice you have plugins named NormComment (0.0.2) and Clean Comment (0.0.4) - are they the same thing?

Added : try starting with the --ignore-plugins switch; if its OK, its a plugin issue, otherwise its not.

I don't know what to look at.

The highlighted line is were the error is happening. It looks like it is a plugin called "Search Switcher". In a method called "about_to_show_menu". I don't recognise the plugin name, but, that method is usually something that builds the menu for the plugin. I'd say that the problem is that something is producing an unicode string instead of whatever was there before. With the recent work for Python 3 compatibility, there have been a few of these. Without being able to see the plugin code, I could only guess that there is something in the plugins configuration that is causing the problem. If "Search Switcher" is a quick way to swap between searches, then it could be that a search or title has some characters that the menu creation doesn't like.

Thank you, I'll check, I don't understand why a library called "Bingo" should give me a problem but I'll check all your options (mainly trying to identify which the plugin is). BTW, yes, I know my plugin collection is a mess but it's miiiiine

The name is a bit misleading.... It allows you to add the saved searches to the book menu. Thank you for the hint. It's something related to the searches, because the searches menu doesn't appear in the right zone (I don't remember the name, where the tags are), and the exception appears when the mouse hover over the searches in the book menu.

EDIT: Thank you, problem solved: the plugin doesn't handle well when there is no saved search.

I call it the Cat(egory) Tree, but most folks refer to it as the Tag Browser

That! And yes, I think the problem is the number of saved searches (0). BTW, this plugin allows me to use the searches with the keyboard, what I wanted.

BTW, thank you for your comments and sorry for having brought here a problem created by my own... but I had forgotten about this plugin (that it's previous to the changes to the libraries that allow to include them in the book context menu).
