Watch the price, though, there is another edition (do not know the difference) which is $11.99, avoid it !

Some people (myself included) have gotten emails regarding a $5 credit which seems to apply to various Random House/Penguin titles at random. Amazon applied it to The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, so for me the book was free.

Pat Frank's Alas, Babylon is $1.99 at Amazon US.

A number of reviews complain about the book being riddled with OCR errors, but they are from 2015. Hopefully the book's been cleaned up a bit since.

Quote:
"Alas, Babylon." Those fateful words heralded the end. When a nuclear holocaust ravages the United States, a thousand years of civilization are stripped away overnight, and tens of millions of people are killed instantly. But for one small town in Florida, miraculously spared, the struggle is just beginning, as men and women of all backgrounds join together to confront the darkness.

Also available on Kobo Canada so I would assume Kobo US as well. If they have corrected the errors, I'm very tempted to replace my old copy which was almost unreadable at points.

One of the reviews mentioned that the very last sentence had an OCR error (I believe We've showed up as We Ye). So if you buy a copy you can quickly check.

I'd offer to check for you, but I have a hospital visit after work. By the time I get back here the sale may be over.

Okay. If thirty seconds of checking counts for anything, the review mentions a sentence that appeared as "The engine started and Randy turned away to face die thousand-year light"

In my copy it correctly says "The engine started and Randy turned away to face the thousand-year light"

Picked it up, read through it and corrected 6 errors in Sigil. Errors where the erroneous word was correctly spelled (a sentence that read "She can he down on the bed" with he instead of lie for example). The sentence you quoted was "The engine started and Randy turned away to face the thousand-year night." in both my original copy and this copy.

I have never heard a native Southerner say you all. I do see non southern actors use it in movies when they are supposed to be Southern. It should be y'all, which is a contraction of you all.

In some schools, Alas, Babylon is on the required reading list (we used to keep a stock of it when I worked at B&N). It's a shame the book isn't getting a more thorough going-over.

I've argued the Big 5 deservedly charge more due to their editing and so forth. This book is put out by HarperCollins.

You're right. I pasted the same sentence twice out of laziness.

The correct sentence in my copy is "The engine started and Randy turned away to face the thousand-year night."

I do hear many a Texan say 'y'all' or if it's regarding a group 'all y'all'.
