Lol, I do read manga on 6" Paperwhite 3 and 4. My distance vision is shot but my near vision is pretty good.

Maybe devices as well? Artifacts on 1067*1650 (1.8M pixels) blown up to 2732*2048 (5.6M pixels) on a 12.9" iPad can be pretty obvious.

I read on a Surface Pro, 12.3" 2736x1824 pixels and not noticed them. I dunno. Maybe I'm not very discerning?

I just finished my book. I'll try reading through a comic downloaded using the Chrome plug-in, keeping an eye out for artifacting, see what I notice.

As a reader that was never overly interested in either of the two superhero 'shared universes', DC was always the better publisher. They just put out more stand-alone stuff. I keep remembering old miniseries.

I just purchased the Howard Chaykin take on Challengers of the Unknown.

I wish they had his take on Blackhawk available...

The DC60 sale is over. Bummer for me, but my wallet is thanking me.

I do wonder: Comics over 10 years old should sell for $0.99 rather than $1.99. I'd buy a lot more if that were the case. Opinions?

You can get a lot of stuff like that in omnibus format, depending on what you like to read. But they tend to package them by story-line rather than sequentially from what I've seen. I'd love for the American companies to package them like Manga - large chunks of sequential issues for $10-$15. It makes them easy to buy, easy to organize and easy to read.

Not the stuff I read. For instance, today I was going to buy Wertigo Voices - Tainted (a one shot) and Ghostdancing, a miniseries that doesn't have a collected edition.

Reckon that's intentional. If $0.99 was standard pricing (and with Amazon's minimum $0.30 cut, I don't see single issues going half that), there's no pressure to buy immediately.

The limited time sales are a good way to boost revenue and highlight select characters, series, imprints, etc. I tend to discover new stuff and typically binge buy during sales (like $100+). I probably wouldn't spend that much even over a year if the $1/issue and $5/volume was just regular pricing.

Apart from the featured sales, I expect there's gonna be another linewide sale come NYCC (October) and Thanksgiving anyway.

Iirc, Marvel Masterworks are like that (sequential issues).

DC also has $$$ Golden Age and Silver Age omnibuses that are like that. I don't think they're available in digital, though.

I recently signed up for the DC Universe 7-day free trial to watch Titans and Young Justice season 3. Service also includes 12+ month old digital comics so I think I'll let it renew for now after the trial ($7.99) and do some binge reading.

No pressure to buy immediately, but I would be much more likely to go mindlessly buy a comic when I'm thinking of it rather than waiting on a sale (that I may miss altogether).

That's true, which is why I specified decade old comics. In general, collections of old comics go on sale. Individual issues not so much. Most of them aren't even remembered and are unlikely to be highlighted.

Comixology makes it very easy to own pretty much every comic for well under a buck an issue. All the big companies have line-wide half-price or better sales multiple times a year, often overlapping other sales making books less than a penny per page at times. Add in the occasional Kindle 99 cent snafu sales, rare 90% off bundles, the additional Comixology Unlimited discount, and retailer site discounts.

It's not that I don't appreciate the sales. Avatar has a line wide sale going on now that includes stuff by Alan Moore, Warren Ellis and soforth. That's great.

I'm just thinking of old, less remembered stuff that rarely goes on sale and would move more if the regular price were cheaper. The stuff I'm talking about sold for less than $0.99 when it was new and people cared about it.
