Comixology has b1g1f on all marvel books, and they and dark horse both have b1g1f on Dark Horse books, and they both stack with earlier sales for some great pricing.

Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons' The Life and Times of Martha Washington in the Twenty-first Century is on sale at Amazon for $5.99. This collects the awesome Give Me Liberty mini-series and a bunch of less inspired sequels.

It's six hundred pages of Dave Gibbons beautiful artwork. And this is Frank Miller before he went out of his mind. Highly recommended for the first storyline.

Confusingly, if you buy from Amazon for $5.99 it's also available on ComiXology. But if you buy directly from ComiXology, it's full price ($20!). Oh Jeff Bezos, you're such a nut!

Cross posting from the Media Deals thread...

On Saturday, March 30th - Batman’s Birthday - popular films, TV series and comics featuring the Dark Knight will be available for free on DC UNIVERSE

First month of DC UNIVERSE Digital Subscription Service only $0.80 for a limited time

Quote:
On Saturday, March 30 DC UNIVERSE will open its digital doors to Batman fans for a day of free live action and animated films, TV series and comics. The one day stream free event is part of DC’s year-long festivities that commemorate 80 years of Batman and recognize the Dark Knight as a symbol of courage, bravery and perseverance for generations of fans. Everyone in the US can get in on the celebration hosted by DC’s first-of-its kind digital subscription service by visiting dcuniverse.com or by downloading the app for free at the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, on Roku, Android TV or Amazon Fire TV.

The celebration begins at Midnight EST, Saturday, March 30th - exactly 80 years to the day Batman first stepped out of the shadows of Gotham City in DETECTIVE COMICS #27 - and will run 24 hours, until 11:59 PM EST. From the Caped Crusader's origin in Frank Miller's landmark "Year One" to Tim Burton's 1989 movie blockbuster to the epic Batman: The Animated Series, you'll be able to binge hundreds of the greatest superhero stories of all time, featuring the most iconic character in pop culture history.

And, if 24 hours of Batman binge-watching is not enough, DC UNIVERSE is supporting the celebration with a special offer. The first month of DC UNIVERSE will cost only $0.80 cents for new members who sign up between March 29, 2019, 12:01 EST and April 4, 2019 11:59pm EST. The special offer is available in the US at www.dcuniverse.com. After the first month at $0.80 the monthly subscription price will renew at the standard rate of $7.99 a month.

Cross-Answering: For anyone debating trying DC Universe, I’d recommend it for superhero fans. I’ve watched two of their original series and enjoyed both. Titans was good, if not your father’s Titans; but Doom Patrol is the best show on television imho. 80 cents to binge those two series is quite a deal, let alone all the other content.

Cross-posting from the Non-Fiction thread.

The Art and Making of the Dark Knight Trilogy, by Jody Duncan Jesser and Janine Pourroy, is currently $3.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
In 2005, director Christopher Nolan reimagined and forever redefined the Batman legend when he began his epic trilogy of films—Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises—starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader in a fresh, dynamic reboot of the franchise.

All three films would go on to blockbuster success and critical acclaim—including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Heath Ledger’s unforgettable performance as Batman’s eternal nemesis, the Joker.

The Art and Making of the Dark Knight Trilogy tells the complete story of these three monumental films. Based on in-depth interviews with Nolan and all of the films’ key cast and crew—including cowriters David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan, cinematographer Wally Pfister, and more—the book reveals the creative process behind the epic Dark Knight Trilogy, supported by lavish art and on and off-set photos.

That does seem like a very nice deal.

I have to say, I'm not too sure about Garth Ennis. I read most of his run on The Demon, all of Preacher and Just A Pilgrim. I liked it all okay, but really didn't see why Preacher drew such acclaim.

From what I've read so far, he is a very good comics writer, but doesn't belong in the ranks of Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Matt Wagner, Grant Morrison and those guys.

I haven't yet read his Punisher or any of his war comics, and apparently that's where he's at his best.

I'd argue The Boys is his masterpiece, and that's what you get here.

I’ve heard many say his war stuff is his best work. I’ve only read one, Fury Max: My War Gone By from Marvel, and it was excellent.
