Washers and dryers are supposed to match? Ours are probably close to 20 years old each. I don't think they're even the same brand. We don't replace them until they break for good since it involves hauling them up the 13 steps from the basement on a narrow staircase where I have to take the railing off. Washer is older than the dryer but it's only needed minor repairs.

Mine are both white, does that count?

My dryer is an ancient hand-me-down. As long as it still runs I will keep it.

Mine started early and continued randomly late into the night. Hello people, this is 4th of July, not New Year's, there's no need to be setting something off at midnight!

Anybody crazy or stupid enough to set of fireworks here in the middle of fire season is going to JAIL! And well they should. The general rule here is Halloween for fireworks. And there's movement to ban them entirely, which I would absolutely support.

Luckily, in the Netherlands we're only allowed to set off fireworks once a year, on New Year's Eve. Until a couple of years ago people were allowed to set it off from 10 am, they've changed that to 6 pm. Fireworks is only allowed to be sold in the three days leading up to New Year's Eve and not on Sunday.

Because of many accidents, upset animals (both pets and wild animals), the mess it leave and because of the environment there are more and more people who want to ban people setting off fireworks. As an alternative bigger cities can organize a professional fireworks or laser show to entertain people. I'm all for that.

Most of the towns/cities around here have official fireworks shows. There are also usually shows at the minor league ballpark and at a resort hotel. So there's no lack of professional displays to view. I guess some people just enjoy the DIY version.

One of my earliest memories is going to the corner bomb site on chilly November night and watching the grown-ups light a big bonfire. Me and Alice Carol N held sparklers as we watched "The Guy" on top burning bright - we would have been about four.

Dang, really? That's a lotta lotta fireworks. Usually, by now, they'd have shot their wad--so to speak.

With the very diverse ethnicity here in Hawaii we have a large Asian-American population, so we have many occasions to "scare off the evil spirits" with fireworks.

Aside from the professional shows happening weekly at the various resorts, we also get many private displays. Mostly strings of literally thousands of fire crackers. During the big holidays like New Years (both calendar and lunar) the gun smoke hangs over the island like London fog, and the ERs brace for respiratory emergencies.

I was on the Big Island for the Millenium rollover (1999/2000). All sorts of fireworks, legal and illegal. . .

Oahu went air quality purple for a couple of hours, for the first time, since those measurements had been recorded. . .

Yes, because of the prevailing 'trade' winds coming from thousand of miles of open ocean, we usually have the best air quality in the nation, and arguably the world; except during lunar new year.

I don't care what those car commercials say, if you want real "driving excitement" you need to be in a minivan approaching a state highway at rush hour ... and have a complete brake failure. All four wheels. No warning.

Now, that's driving "excitement!"

(No one died. This is actually the second time in my life that I've experienced a complete brake failure. Although, it's harder to achieve with a modern, dual-circuit braking system.)

So, Anybody up for a road trip?!
