A Shadow on the Glass by Ian Irvine is FREE at Amazon US.

Quote:
A haunted thief-girl. A vengeful sorcerer. If she fails, she dies.

Karan, a sensitive whose family is cursed by madness, is compelled by honour to steal an ancient magical device and take it to the Magister. But it’s the treacherous Mirror of Aachan, and hidden within it is a deadly secret.

Llian, a brilliant but naïve Tale-spinner, uncovers a 3,000-year-old mystery too dangerous to be revealed and is expelled from his college.

Thrown together by fate as they struggle to get to safety, Karan and Llian are ensnared in the machinations of immortals, the vengeance of feuding warlords and the magic of all-powerful wizards. Magic that could break Karan’s fragile mind, and corrupt Llian as he pries into the riddles of the mirror.

And if they fail the two-faced mirror will spark a millennial war, terrible as a tsunami, that will deluge the land in forbidden magic, tear nations apart, and threaten the very survival of humanity.

Kobo
B&N

This is exactly the style of fantasy that I enjoy.

Kobo is still selling a Penguin edition from 20 years ago. Comparing the marketing blurbs, I wouldn't know they were the same book.

First part of a DS9 trilogy that I enjoyed. In later books has time-travel to the past and to a twisted future.
All three books are on sale this month, along with several Enterprise novels (primarily the “Rise of the Federation” sequence).

Popular self-publisher Will Wight (note Wight not Wright) has a lot of books free on Amazon for today only. I have only personally read Unsouled, the first book of the wuxia-inspired Cradle series, but I enjoyed it and intend to continue. I have also heard good things about the Traveler's Gate trilogy.

All of the single-volume editions are free today, except apparently the most recent Cradle book (#6), unless that's a glitch.

I already had several of these books because they'd been free before. Notably, the two omnibuses have been free and are not included in the current offer.

Edit: Cradle #6 is apparently only non-free here in the UK, and it is a glitch.

Thanks. A click frenzy.

They're all free in the US. As is "The Traveler's Gate Chronicles (Complete) (The Traveler's Gate Trilogy Book 0)"

Thanks for this. Downloaded all of them, and started reading the Cradle series last night. Big mistake. Very good, so hard to put down to finally get to sleep! I would never have known about this author!

The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge is $2.72 on Amazon.com
It has been steadily decreasing in price from $8 since the start of June, so if you wish to wait it might get lower.
Quote:
Faith Sunderly leads a double life. To most people, she is reliable, dull, trustworthy—a proper young lady who knows her place as inferior to men. But inside, Faith is full of questions and curiosity, and she cannot resist mysteries: an unattended envelope, an unlocked door. She knows secrets no one suspects her of knowing. She knows that her family moved to the close-knit island of Vane because her famous scientist father was fleeing a reputation-destroying scandal. And she knows, when her father is discovered dead shortly thereafter, that he was murdered.

In pursuit of justice and revenge, Faith hunts through her father’s possessions and discovers a strange tree. The tree bears fruit only when she whispers a lie to it. The fruit of the tree, when eaten, delivers a hidden truth. The tree might hold the key to her father’s murder—or it may lure the murderer directly to Faith herself. Frances Hardinge is the author of many acclaimed novels, including Cuckoo Song, which earned five starred reviews.

Smashwords (https://www.smashwords.com) has their summer sale posted running throughout July. It's the usual morass of self-published works with a smattering of back-list titles where the rights have reverted to the author.

Of note:

Ruthanna Emrys: Imperfect Commentaries is $3.50 (50% off)
https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/946158
Very recently published short story collection not available on Amazon (at least in the UK).

CatYelling (publishers) have a number of titles by Will Shetterly & Emma Bull. Not in the sale, but they tend to be cheaper than Amazon:
https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/willshetterly
I've picked up electronic versions of various titles (I already have Liavek in both electronic and print - note that the electronic versions differ because of rights).

Lavie Tidhar (https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/lavietidhar) is currently 50% off in the sale. The 4 Apex World SF books (one - #4? - was in a recent StoryBundle) are $2.50 each and a couple of novellas are $1.50 each and thus cheaper than Amazon.

Cynthia Felice: Iceman is $2.00 (50% off):
https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/932976

Other authors with some titles in the sale:
Lee Killough: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/killough
Melissa Scott: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/melissascott (the Astreiant series)
Sherwood Smith: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/SherSmith & https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/sherwoodsmith

Jeffrey A Carver: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/starrigger
Chris Dolley: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/ChrisFrancis
