good to know.
there comes a point, after many upgrades , that a clean install is the better route.
I have to admit, I have done it mostly when forced to - i live with minor glitches, then eventually lose patience, try fixes, and break stuff!
e.g. my last case was caused by netflix not working in edge. a minor annoyance really as it still worked in chrome but I tried more and more things to fix it/solve it and eventually messed up a registry restore and it was bye bye windows install ...

...and the previous one was to trying to reclone windows to a larger drive after if had already been cloned once or twice before & I could not get the itsy bitsy extra partitions to line up like they needed to

I do find it strange that a clean install to a blank SSD drive takes only 15 mins but a "feature upgrade" like the one i just did from 1809 to 1903 takes about 90 mins end to end- mostly for the install phase - even longer if you factor in the extra hassle of then having to remove windows old to get back 30+ GB of SSD sopace

anyhow, after devoting a big chunk of yesterday to get 1903 done, i was fully updated for all of 3 hours!, after putting it to sleep the damn thing woke me in the night by lighting up the monitor because - guess what - it wanted to do another update.
Grrr. I had all that "we will wake up your PC when we think its important" stuff disabled but 1903 re-enabled it.

or there's an app for that!

i found a nifty freeware solution when I needed to do it, which adds the option to right click menus

I agree that taking ownership can be a lifesaver.

That and having an unlock utility for locked files/folders that wont delete, though to be fair the newest windows iterations don't often leave those lying around.
