So, question on how epub anthologies work:

With xenforo there is never a guarantee that the story you are reading is going to only have a single URL. I was wondering if I make an anthology using FFF will it update that anthology when an update notification comes in to my email?

Unfortunately, no.

FFF will only notice an updated story URL being part of an existing anthology if the story has a series URL. Which XF stories don't have.

And even when FFF does have a series URL to find an anthology with, it doesn't update the anthology automatically due to the way FFF implements anthologies. FFF just tells you about it.

That error is coming from reading the author page. From what I can find, this is an issue with the server handing FFF an incorrect page length.

It probably has to do with that author having 2921 stories. I can see in browser that ffnet isn't serving the entire list, it just ends abruptly mid-tag.

You can work around it by turning off the ffnet specific feature that needs to read the author page:

# skip_author_cover is what lets FFF know not to use author 
# image for story covers.
skip_author_cover:false

You will need to either set that for each story by that author you want to download, or for [www.fanfiction.net]--FFF doesn't have an ability to apply per-author settings.

I'm considering saving my fanfiction epubs to disk, is there any problem with saving the opf-file in the epub instead of separately? And what would you recommend?

I don't have any specific recommendations because I don't know what you are trying do or why.

I would not insert additional files into epubs that you intend to ever update with FFF because, at best, the extra files will be discarded on update.

If you don't intend to ever use the saved epubs with FFF again, do whatever you like.

Ok, thanks that'll clear up that I need it in separate files. Do you know if I can create a column with a template based on if a book is merged with another?

I've been using FFF since it had the other name, and absolutely love it. Thank you for allowing me to read on my iPad at work, where there's no network access. ::

The latest update (which I installed today, and yes - I did restart Calibre) is no longer putting the default Title page (Calibre "shelf" of books, with fic title, author, and series name/number if appropriate, on white background) on the fic I download. Now it's giving me the first page of the fic, like I get when I use AO3's download button. Ick.

Is there a setting for this somewhere? I looked thru the Calibre prefs and the FFF prefs. I found some stuff about the cover page in the FFF prefs, but I guess I'm not savvy enough to understand what I need to change.

Nothing in the last version specifically changed how covers are handled. By default, FFF will not generate a cover (you have to turn it on), but FFF will include a title page with title, author, and several other metadata items by default.

It sounds like you had covers on and title page off, but now covers aren't generating.

How old was the version you were using? Of both FFF and Calibre.

Because it sounds like you're talking about Calibre's generated covers from the early days, like so:



Calibre stopped generating covers like that a looong time ago. And along the way, FFF's settings for generating covers changed also. There's a tab for "Calibre Cover" in FFF's settings dialog with a host of options.

The OPF will always be in the epub. But, have a look at the Save-to-disk options in the calibre preferences. There are options about whether to create the separate OPF and cover files. You probably want to turn them off.
