Two titles in Donna Leon's Guido Brunetti series (excellent series, IMO), are on sale right now at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Suffer the Little Children is the 16th in the series, on sale at $2.99.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0097D7BXK
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/suf...le-children-17

Spoiler:
Quote:
An assault on a pediatrician reveals a web of corruption and deception in the New York Times–bestselling, Silver Dagger Award–winning series.

When Commissario Brunetti is summoned in the middle of the night to the hospital bed of a senior pediatrician, he is confronted with more questions than answers. Three men—a young Carabiniere captain and two privates from out of town—have burst into the doctor’s apartment in the middle of the night, attacked him, and taken away his eighteen-month-old baby boy.

What could have motivated an assault by the forces of the state so violent it has left the doctor mute? Who would have authorized such an alarming operation? At the same time, Brunetti’s colleague Inspector Vianello discovers a moneymaking scam between pharmacists and doctors in the city. But it appears as if one of the pharmacists is after more than money . . .

This is a smart, suspenseful novel in the series set in a beautifully realized Venice, a glorious city seething with small-town vice.

A Question of Belief is the 19th in the series, and it's on sale at $1.99. Info and links are in this previous post:

Actually, this ^^^ appears to have been the start of price drops on several titles in the Brunetti series. Right now, my search links are picking up more than 10 that are priced between $1.99 and $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US, slightly different lists at each retailer.

The titles at Kobo are coupon/VIPable.

If you need to fill in a title or two, it might be time to take a look...

Boston: A Documentary Novel by Upton Sinclair is $1.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
A wealthy dowager confronts the brutality of the class system and fights for justice in this dramatic account of the Sacco and Vanzetti case

With the publication of The Jungle in 1906, Upton Sinclair became the literary conscience of America. Two decades later, he brought his singular artistry and steadfast commitment to the cause of social equality to bear on the case of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, two Italian anarchists accused of armed robbery and murder. Boston, a “documentary novel” published one year after Sacco and Vanzetti were executed, brilliantly combines fact and fiction to expose the toxic atmosphere of paranoia, prejudice, and greed in which the two men were tried.

Recently widowed sixty-year-old Cornelia Thornwell abandons her Boston Brahmin family to take a factory job in Plymouth, Massachusetts. She witnesses the crushing poverty and heartless bigotry endured by immigrant laborers, and befriends the charismatic fishmonger Bartolomeo Vanzetti, a committed anarchist and atheist. When Vanzetti and his fellow countryman Nicola Sacco are arrested and charged with murder, Cornelia’s belief in the fairness of the American judicial system is shattered. Joining the public outcry heard from Boston to Buenos Aires, she demands a fair trial—but it is too late. As Sacco knew all too well: “They got us, they will kill us.”

The hardcover doesn't come out until September 3. Is it common practice to release an ebook months before a print edition now?

Be that as it may, I'm not passing it up at that price (even though I'm only up to the 4th "Logan McRae" so far).

Paris In the Dark is the fourth and most recent (2018) in the Christopher Marlowe Cobb series by Robert Olen Butler. I loved the first title in this series, The Hot Country, and have enjoyed the next two as well. Per SYKM, Paris was a finalist for the 2018 Hammett Prize, so I'm extra excited to see it drop to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

Spoiler:
Quote:
'A morally complex and beautifully written thriller with a delicately portrayed love story at its heart. A cut above' - Mail on Sunday

Autumn 1915. The First World War is raging across Europe. Woodrow Wilson has kept Americans out of the trenches, although that hasn't stopped young men and women from crossing the Atlantic to volunteer at the front. Christopher Marlowe 'Kit' Cobb, a Chicago reporter and undercover agent for the US government is in Paris when he meets an enigmatic nurse called Louise. Officially in the city for a story about American ambulance drivers, Cobb is grateful for the opportunity to get to know her but soon his intelligence handler, James Polk Trask, extends his mission. Parisians are meeting 'death by dynamite' in a new campaign of bombings, and the German-speaking Kit seems just the man to discover who is behind this - possibly a German operative who has infiltrated with the waves of refugees? And so begins a pursuit that will test Kit Cobb, in all his roles, to the very limits of his principles, wits and talents for survival.

Fleetly plotted and engaging with political and cultural issues that resonate deeply today, Paris in the Dark is a page-turning novel of unmistakable literary quality.

'Written in a hard-boiled, staccato style, Paris in the Dark is an intelligent, stylish thriller, and so atmospheric that the pages reek of Gitanes and coffee' - Antonia Senior, Times

'A thriller of great depth and intelligence' - Sunday Times

'As well as being a top thriller, Paris In The Dark oozes the atmosphere of the city at that time - you can almost smell the Gauloises, not to mention the tension and fear' - Sunday Sport

'A top historical espionage thriller, tautly plotted and told with humanity and realism. Rich characterisation and an authenticity that I found gripping from the first page to the last' - C J Carver, Author of Know Me Now (The Dan Forrester Series)

'Butler’s prose is a cut above. His descriptions of First World War Paris under the shadow of Zeppelins, and the threat of ground-based bombings, are exquisite – his storytelling admirable. A first-class literary thriller to lose yourself in and mourn when the last page is turned' - David Young, author of Stasi Child, Stasi Wolf and A Darker State

The American Agent is the 15th and most recent (2019) in the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. It has dropped to £1.49 at Kindle UK - a really nice price for a most-recent-in-series.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07H3FTY8B

Spoiler:
Quote:
When Catherine Saxon, an American correspondent reporting on the war in Europe, is found murdered in her London digs, news of her death is concealed by British authorities. Serving as a linchpin between Scotland Yard and the Secret Service, Robert MacFarlane pays a visit to Maisie Dobbs, seeking her help. Accompanied by an agent from the US Department of Justice—Mark Scott, the American who helped Maisie escape Hitler’s Munich in 1938—he asks Maisie to work with Scott to uncover the truth about Saxon's death.

As the Germans unleash the full terror of their blitzkrieg upon the citizens of London, raining death and destruction from the skies, Maisie must balance the demands of solving this dangerous case with her need to protect the young evacuee she has grown to love. Entangled in an investigation linked to the power of wartime propaganda and American political intrigue being played out in Britain, Maisie will face losing her dearest friend—and the possibility that she might be falling in love again.

Troubled Bones is the fourth in the Crispin Guest series by Jeri Westerson. Just to help the moderator out, since this might appear self-pub for those not familiar with historical mystery authors/series, a single click on the "hardcover" button and paging down shows it to have been originally traditionally published before, presumably, the rights reverted to the author for this edition. In addition, SYKM indicates it was a finalist for Agatha, Bruce Alexander and Macavity awards. Hopefully this is enough evidence that it's worthy to post.

Bones has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.
