I would not have a problem with a CC number as I use PP's plug-in that lets me generate CC #'s for a specific number of charges. One-off purchases and purchases from any site that is not a major retailer all get a one-time use card number each time I make a purchase.

Thanks - I didn't know about either of those. I've used the API in the past but the digital delivery cart is good news. And I had no idea PP had cc generating abilities. Is that accessible via the regular PP login?

Cheers

Here is a link to the developers resources page, in case ya don't have it:

https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?c...eloper/home_US

As to the PayPal plug-in. To downlaod it I think you need to login to your PP account first but here is a link:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...Plugin-outside

I will say it is not without issues (typically they seem to (re-)induce memory leaks after fixing it a couple releases before...sigh...technology ), at least in IE. I usually keep it disabled until I need to use it to generate a card number. Works in FF as well...it is REALLY nice to know even if a site gets hacked the number you provided was only good for a single use.

I've just had an email from someone at Freemantle telling me they've tried to send me a copy of my ebook twice and it's being returned. If they're trying to send them as some sort of weird attatchment they're going to run into all sorts of problems with services like Googlemail.

To be honest I'm less than impressed.

*Edit* After some discussion it would seem that whatever they're doing to the attatchment Google really doesn't like it.

All three books were waiting in my inbox when I woke up. No problems here. Thanks again Simon.

I was able to get mine sent to another email account I have without the same attachment restrictions. There are a lot of people out there however who only have webmail accounts.

Oddly enough once I got that sorted I actually had problems converting the files with Calibre. The txt version was one of those odd ones where Calibre removes most of the carriage returns/line feeds making it a mess (Top tip. Export as PDF from Open Office before converting to fix that). The HTML version converted perfectly but my 505 took so long to process it I thought it had crashed.

All done now though and I'm very pleased that Simon and his publisher decided to release these drm free and at a great price. I'm looking forward to reading books 2,3 and 4 and you've got a guaranteed sale for the ebook version of book 5 when it's finished.

Less than 740kb each. They are also Zip files so I not sure why that would be a problem with any Email account.

The publisher asked my advice on this, and Google just seems to be rejecting the zip outright, or else it's the rtf within the zip. (There's nothing strange in the file, and definitely no executables.)

I passed on the old 'rename the zip to doc' wheeze, which should have done the trick.

Cheers

Renaming it to doc to slip it through is pretty lax security on Google's part if they're that serious about attachment security Whatever works though.

The person I was talking to said she'd already emailed out dozens of orders. That's pretty good going I thought when it's only been on sale for a few hours. I hope it does well for you. I've posted about it (And the free first book) on another forum I hang out on.

hi spacejock,

just to say i was so hooked after reading your first spacejock book, i bought the second one after finding out it was available as non drm book at a very reasonable price, only a few things;

1. your automated php scripts dont appear to be working, I received the confirmed payment from both freemantle press and paypal almost immediately, but not the ebooks, this was over an hour ago - unfortunately I only read about this thread after a friend on another forum sent me this link (I used my main home email address, a gmail account). Does this mean Im buggered? (after reading about the other poster with gmail woes) . . . . I guess I'll have to wait for your offices to open as theres 9 hours time difference between me (uk) and freemantle (australia)

2. great price - why cant more authors insist on drm free content? I notice you sell the spacejock series in paperback version as a bundle, will you not be selling this series as an eBundle as well?

Hi redbaron101.....from posts above it seems it will be emailed to you.

Hi Spacejock......your books make me laugh (that is an achievement, in my case). I just bought the lot (as ebooks) (no DRM and $5 each is a winner). Just want to say thanks.

Don't worry, nothing went wrong went wrong went wr--

There isn't any automated delivery on the ebooks yet. This is my publisher's first foray into ebooks, and they'll set up better systems if the sales warrant it.

Most publishing companies make their own decisions without any consultation with the author. In my case I've offered myself (and my work) up as a guinea pig, and because I know my way around the 'net (and computers), they went for it. If it all goes wrong or fails to make any impact, I'm the only one who will suffer for it.

Re the bundle, there's no postage savings by selling all three together, so probably not.

You're welcome! I put 12-18 months of very hard work into each book, so it's always good to hear it's appreciated.
