Why would she need collections IF they are Library books?

Just go to Best Buy & pick her up a PW4. When on sale at amazon they are on sale every where they are sold. |

I won't get into being able to hack the firmware without needing to jailbreak your ereader since that is likely of interest to a relatively small group. Epub vs. azw3 is pretty much as saw-off in terms of capability though epub has not yet managed to match the abomination that is KFX. Last edited by DNSB; 06-10-2019 at 12:50 AM. |

I much prefer ePub to Amazon's format. There are plenty of free ePubs available online she can probably just drag and drop onto the Kobo. The Kindle will require Calibre (or some other tool) to convert to KF8 in order to side load. I have a Kindle Paperwhite 3, and I've stuck with is mostly for the ecosystem. My first Kindle was the Kindle 3, and Calibre could do collections right in the software. When the Kindle 4 came out, the feature went away. But with the help of Apprentice Alf, I have "liberated" all my Amazon purchases and am free to hop between readers. When the Paperwhite 3 goes, I will move to a Kobo. I never used Amazon's X-Ray feature. And no one has completely reverse engineered KFX. |

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/amazon-...?skuId=6306574 It is currently on sale at Amazon, but it doesn't look like it is "on sale" at Best Buy. I'm guessing Best Buy would price match the Amazon sale price. |

I just noticed the Kobo store give the author/publisher the option to sell a book DRM-free. I think that is something we need to support. |

Maybe not for you, but It probably pays for one to check and not assume.

I recently bought a video card from a B&M Best Buy. I knew Amazon had it cheaper. I asked for a price match. The BB employ says: "We have an app to check if anywhere has it cheaper, let me check... no, Amazon doesn't have it cheaper." I say: "I'm pretty sure Amazon has it cheaper." They say: "It has to be shipped and sold by Amazon." I say: "Let me check". I check the price on the Amazon website. "See, cheaper at Amazon, shipped and sold by Amazon." They price matched. To some, there is a difference from "being on sale when Amazon has it on sale" and price matching. Be diligent! Trust but verify! Last edited by John F; 06-09-2019 at 04:40 PM. |

At a local Best Buy, I was helping one of my in-laws pick out a new laptop (she had been browsing online but wanted to check the keyboard and general feel before purchasing). After picking out a laptop, she asked if they would price match with Amazon.ca and the sales clerk checked the on-line price and said "Sure but only if we really wanted to pay $17 more for the laptop".

As others have noted, the price differential between Amazon and B&M is not what it once was. |

You can do that with a Kindle as well (in libraries in the U.S. that support Kindles) ... if you have the patience to wait on its very slow "experimental" web browser. (Definitely not as slick as the Kobo Overdrive integration.) I was in an airport and wanted to read a library book I forgot to download to my Kindle, so I used my Blackberry Q10's "hotspot" feature and the Kindle WiFi to log in to my account and download it. (Actually it makes a lot more sense to borrow the book with the phone and THEN download it to the Kindle via the experimental browser, as someone pointed out to me.)

In my limited experience, there are more books available as ePub at Overdrive libraries than Kindle. I'm not saying a lot of books aren't available as Kindle formatted, but I've borrowed a good number of books that were ePub only.

If I were buying for a friend who only used the library, I'd probably go with Kobo. That's even more true if they just want to view on the Kobo - I believe it has Overdrive integration? The friend would have to be computer savvy enough to sideload the Kindle library books. |

The Kobo arrived today from Walmart. That was some fast shipping.

One question. When the Kobo goes to sleep, it says: "Walmart eBooks by Rakuten kobo." Do they all say this, or just the Walmart model? Is there some way to get rid of this? |
