Refurbished Kindle Warranty

I'm considering buying a refurbished Kindle PW4 directly from Amazon. The page makes no mention at all about the warranty period on a refurb device. Does anyone here know?

When you go to an item page, scroll down to the bottom. The last section is Technical Details and the warranty info is in that box. Click on that and you will see a more extensive description of the warranty.

Also, right above the item picture, there is an orange stripe. Within that, it says

Quote:
Limited time offer: Save on Pre-Owned Amazon devices. See deals. Terms & conditions.
Clicking on "see deals" takes you to a page where it says:

Quote:
Certified Refurbished & Used Amazon Devices

Certified Refurbished Amazon Devices work and look like new and are backed with the same limited warranty as a new device. Used Amazon Devices sold by Amazon Warehouse are fully functional pre-owned units that have been tested and verified by Amazon to meet the specified product condition. Used Amazon Devices do not receive a manufacturer's warranty but do receive a 30 day money-back guarantee from Amazon.

If you scroll down the product page, it's shown under technical details.

Mikou - Thank you. I had clicked on a few links and read some stuff, but missed that.

ilovejedd - They are just showing the same product page as a brand new Kindle. That's why I didn't believe it. But, based on what Mikou found, I guess it's true.

Being a Prime member, I got another $9 off. I know they go on sale once in a while for about the same price, but I don't want to wait another month or two.

When I go to Refurbished Paperwhite 4 on Amazon (using Firefox) I get a banner (see image below) that reads, "Every Certified Refurbished Amazon Device is backed by the same limited warranty as a brand-new device." Which is weird because I always thought refurbished Kindles had a 90 warranty. I guess I'm used to looking at the ones on Woot (which are often call "refurbished" but are really "used").

It's only the "Certified" tag that means the device has the full warranty. Many times there are devices sold from the Warehouse Deals section that do not carry the warranty.

I’ve purchased both refurbished (used) and used from Woot.

The ones marked as refurb had factory firmware so I’m guessing they do go through *some* form of refurbishment.

The ones marked as used, I reckon they just do a reset and call it a day.

No, not weird. It used to be that the refurbs sold on amazon.com had a 90 day warranty. I always thought that a refurb is not really worth the money due to the limited warranty and not that much lower price compared to new.
Treating them like new warranty wise is a welcome change.

I've bought certified refurbs since at least 2012, it's not a new thing. We bought a little basic Kindle in 2012 that carried the Certified Refurbished title. I just checked my orders.

Both older large Fire tablets were certified with full 12 month warranties. The oldest one is the 2012 HD 8.9" released in 2012, bought certified refurbished in 2014.

Unless you have a screenshot of the product page at the time you bought it, it doesn't necessarily mean that what you see now is what you had at time of purchase.

I can do a screen grab of my order. I specifically remember buying them as refurbs because of the warranty.

Thank you for that. I remember refurbished with less warranty, but then I am not sure if they just called it refurbished and it was sold by some other company. I found this interesting article, and searching on amazon.com, I cannot find anything "refurbished" unless it is "certified refurbished" by Amazon with the same as new warranty. Any other company selling on Amazon must name it "renewed" if and only if they are allowed. That change happened beginning of this year. The new "renewed" is now much better with at least 90 day warranty.

I've seen used devices sold through the Warehouse Deal's part of Amazon that have no warranty at all. They offer the normal return policy but have no mention of a warranty. There are Fire tablets for sale right now on Warehouse Deals.

I meant listings that used to have refurbished in the title, now if it is not from Amazon it has (renewed) showing which means it has at least 90 days warranty. I wouldn't trust used, especially since returns might count against me.
