I'm asking coz I have a friend coming from US to EU in 10 days and he told me the new GL Plus is avalable in his nearest BN store, so I'm wondering whether to go for it. I just don't what to be disappointed by the screen like with the Aura, Forma and the Inkpad 3 as I have enough 7.8" waterproof readers - I need a better screen like on the GL3

Well, I haven't let battery run down on the new one yet, but I definitely have on the Glowlight 3 without anything disappearing.

The Plus is not IR. Attached is my attempt to photograph them with the same book and font settings. The contrast and crispness of the text is much better in person. I'd say the screens are fairly comparable.

Well, I was in town today and stopped at Barnes & Noble to see the Glowlight Plus. Needless to say, I couldn’t resist. They only had 2 left in the store. I’ve only had it a few hours but so far so good. It is a little heavy but it weighs less than my PW4 with the cover. I sideloaded about 20 books in addition to my BN books. Everything seems to be working so far. I like the color shift from cool to warm. It seems fast enough and I am really glad to have page turn buttons again.

The new nook's name is really confusing so I could not find any info about sideloading apk or rooting. I figure it's similar to GL3 so it won't be that hard.
Play it in the store and I feel it's faster than GL3 maybe because the doubled RAM size. The buttons feel better too.

Could be. There's not a huge difference to me between the Glowlight 3 and Clara HD screens. A little, but nothing major to my eyes.

Does it force you to register before you can get into it, like the older ones did?

It first wanted to connect to WiFi and then installed an update. Then it asked me to log on to my BN account. I don’t know if there is any way around that because I didn’t try.

Yes, same here. The price is high enough that I can't afford to buy it and then discover it's basically useless.

It seems they are using an unusual system for side loaded content. The spsd looks like it's a virtual partition within the regular android user partition. The picture shows how Solid Explorer reads the partitions on a Glowlight 3, SD Card = spsd. I haven't upgraded the memory, this has the standard 8GB.

I believe their implementation of this partition is either very poorly done or that android doesn't really support this kind of thing very well. What ever the issue is I can't believe they would release another reader without fixing or changing it!

I had tons of corruption issues side loading books onto the spsd but I've since installed Calibre Companion which saves books on the regular android internal partition (CC doesn't see the spsd partition at all) and I have had zero corruption issues.
