Tidying up. Tomorrow an estate agent of the city council is coming by. For taxes this year they've upped the estimation of the value of all homes. And, in our opinion, they've estimated the value of our home too high. So now it needs to be appraised. I've been helping my mother tidy up the house. My mother always goes into overdrive when estate agents come by, but I drew the line at cleaning closets and cupboards. This morning I'm tackling my own floor; my rooms, the laundry room and the hallway. I've just done the things I was looking least forward to.

Later today I have to pack for my trip to Amsterdam. Although I'm looking forward to it I'm also still annoyed I had to book a hotel due to a public transport strike. I'm glad I did because more and more sections of public transport joined the original strikers.

Hmmmm. Why tidy up, if you want them to appraise it LOWER? I mean, I know I have the lowest amount of pride-of-ownership on the planet, but that just seems counter-productive!

Just surfing the net at present. I'm slowly working my way through stuff here too though. It's going in one of 3 piles. 1)keep 2)give away 3)throw away. It's slow going but I am getting somewhere with it.

My thoughts exactly. But that's how it is. I needed to tidy up anyway, so now I had the motivation to actually do it.

Yesterday was a long and tiring day. The show was fun, though. But next time I'll book a hotel room for two nights. I didn't go to bed until after 1.30 am and I'm not good at dealing with long days and short nights anymore. I'm glad I'm working until 2pm today, then I can take a nap this afternoon.

I'm drawing now. Although A lot of people paint with paints, but I prefer to draw with watercolors. Personally, I chose my set of watercolors from this list https://wowpencils.com/best-acrylic-paint/ they are made with high quality. Unfortunately, my drawing won't be ready soon, most likely in a month, I hope, lol

Have fun. I love watercolours, too. I'm still getting to know my Schmincke set. At the moment I'm enjoying watercolour colouring books. I don't have to put any effort into thinking about a subject and it's a very relaxing thing for me to do. Thanks to a bad art teacher and national art curriculum for secondary schools I find it hard to do my own drawing. I've just started a sketch book and I'm trying to convince myself that I do it for fun and my drawings can be crap as long as I enjoy myself. But I haven't really convinced myself of that quite yet.

Not much. We're waiting for the court to do it's thing and for the judge to put together a verdict. The date for that is mid August. However, we've been at this type/level of court before and then the judge kept delaying the verdict, each time with two to four weeks and we didn't get a verdict until over half a year after the set date. Our lawyer thought it was because the judge was reluctant to give a verdict because it would set a precedent. I don't know if that's also happening in this case. We'll see.

In other uncle news, he's a self styled asbestos expert (he never got educated in this field) and there's a lot to do about the pending banning of asbestos roofs. He's a big opponent of this ban. About a month ago he was on a news program and last Tuesday there was an article on the website of one of the bigger newspapers in the Netherlands. I scrolled past it without recognizing him in from the photo. I got a message from my mother (I was in Amsterdam) telling me it was my uncle. He looked very angry with the world and bitter in the photo. I had to admit that this made me kind of happy. I didn't read the article, it was one the articles behind a pay wall.

Meanwhile, on the 30th we have another family gathering. My cousin is organizing it at her place. Even if it's over four weeks away I'm already starting to get anxiety over it. Although I don't expect any drama like we had after our last gathering in January; I don't expect my uncle's children to be there, at least not his oldest daughter who caused the drama.

Cleaning out my "desk" and turning over projects to the survivors.

Got hit by a layoff wave yesterday afternoon. . .

I'll have to scruff up another contract. It should be the last one. . . .

IDK, Rumple, maybe it's time to consider Beta Blockers or Xanax for your family gatherings. Or just don't GO.

I mean...your head won't explode if you blow off a family gathering. I realize that you live in the bosom of your family, and all that (I'd have melted into a puddle of angry goo if I'd done that), but ...Just Say No, as good old Nancy Reagan used to say. Don't go, don't subject yourself to it.

All the denial, by families ("oh, sure, Uncle Jerry was a child molester Pedo, and tried to get in the pants of every girl in the family, but if we don't invite him and Auntie Jo to Susie's wedding, Jo's Sister Berta will be unhappy!") is bad for your psyche. Just say no and don't go.

That's my $.02 on "how to survive family drama." Avoid it!

LOL. Me being a super introvert social gatherings always cause a certain amount of anxiety. However, I don't think this gathering will cause problems, because I don't think that any of my uncle's children will show up. And if they do I'll keep away from them. Luckily my cousin has set a start and end time and it doesn't last too long. It will also be fun to meet with extended family again (my father's cousins and his aunt and uncle's, who are only a couple of years older than them).

There was also talk about organizing a gathering for just the cousins, but after January's drama I don't think anyone will want to organize it. If it does happen I've already decided I'm not going. I'm not blaming my uncle's children for his behaviour. Apparently his oldest daughter can't do the same and I do blame her for her behaviour towards me and I'm not going through that again. I won't vomit out a tirade like her on the WhatsApp group, but will contact the cousin organizing it privately and explain why I'm not going. Depending who the organizer it it will be a short or a more extensive explanation.

Good for you, but I still don't think you owe anyone any explanation. You don't go, period. The heck with them. That's my $.02. But I know, I do, family is...complicated.

The Canal Pride is about to start. I expect the boat parade to pass our house in the next 30-45 minutes. In the store it's quiet, but outside it's busy. The atmosphere is great. To be honest I prefer the Canal Pride over King's Day.
