I came up with some directions that are clearer for someone like me who needs it all spelled out:
1. Make sure your kindle base firmware and serial (beginning 6 characters) match the requirements in the OP 2. download the dev firmware that matches your FW and put it on the root of the drive, and update 3. download kindle-jb-factory-1.2-r15011.tar.xz and put the main-htmlviewer.tar.gz file on the root of the drive (there's an extra folder in here, that confused me). update. 4. if successful, you will get a "book" saying you're jailbroken. 5. Now download JailBreak-1.15.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.zip and put the .bin file on the root of the drive and update. (make sure to remove the htmlviewer file in previous step) 6. update to main fw 7. install plugins 8. create empty “update.bin.tmp.partial” folder and put that on the root of the drive to prevent future updates. That would have saved me so much time digging around in what steps I'm supposed to do. The plugins are a whole other behemoth of "what in tarnation am I supposed to do with these??" and "these instructions don't make sense or aren't updated for PW4 so I'm having to infer and read between the lines" and "what works for PW3 seems to work for PW4" https://www.ereader-palace.com/4-mus...eaking-kindle/ This makes it way easier than the current...."spaghetti" of instructions I can currently find. One link that links to something else, that links to a main directory listing, that has a footnote and a P.S.S.S.S is anything that needs a complete overhaul. Anyways, thanks for all the help. |

I just received my PW4 and the firmware is 5.10.3.
The device serial number is G000 PP12 9174. I haven't activate the Wifi and haven't done anything on it beyond starting it and skipping the Wifi settings. So far from what I read it's not possible to JailBreak it ![]() I will be willing to give a try at extracting the factory firmware. |

Hi. I am new to all this, so it'd be great if you guys can help me with jailbreaking my Kindle PaperWhite (G000T608).
I accidentally downloaded an update before I learned of jailbreaking, so the firmware version is 5.11.2. Please let me know if it's still possible to jailbreak it and if yes, how? |

It's a nice day for me.
Since a few months, I was stuck with the jailbreak of my PW4, after an (unwanted) OTA update to 5.10.1.2. I realized too late that I would never connect my PW4 to wifi. But today, I tried a "5.10.1.3_factory" update. And it worked! I was able to restart from a factory firmware and apply the JB process! Many thanks to all the devs involved in these hacks |

Ok, I let my kindle update as well... My question is: If I wait until somebody "cracks" it (version 5.11.2), I can do the JB without opening it and going through the serial port? If not, why?
I mean, why the kindle needs to be in factory mode? It already comes with an "anti-JB", don't it? |

PW4 normal firmware: Not jailbreakable as-is.
PW4 fw <= 5.10.1.3: Can install factory firmware and use ;installHtml (or ;merchant) jailbreak method. PW4 fw > 5.10.1.3: No known vulnerabilities at this time in both normal and factory firmware (Amazon already fixed the one we use for ;installHtml and ;merchant). No idea if/when a new jailbreak method will be discovered. |

Ok, so I bought a new PW4 32GB, came with FW 5.10.0.2 (Yay!). Installed factory 5.10.0.2, JB, applied hotfix, installed KUAL, Helper+, python, LibrarianSync.
Now I have to get off the Factory FW. Is it safe to install the 5.11.2 FW via OTA or downloaded directly from Amazon servers? I just saw a post about not going beyond 5.10.1.3 if using KOReader, is this true? Last edited by NRB73; 06-15-2019 at 05:08 AM. |
