Still odd that there was no online pre-order. Or at least a placeholder page on the website saying that it is available in stores now. (Besides the press release)

This rollout reminds me of a soft open for a new store or restaurant; it's a chance to work the kinks out before possible widespread public derision.

If you refer to the staggered online date, then it has been like that since Nate posted it. I distinctly remember reading it and been wondering why all these posts appeared about not finding any info on the webpage. That is possible. When the Oasis 2 came out, Audible support did not ship in the factory FW, but required an update. Maybe B&N can learn from others advertising mistakes. Yes, true. And maybe B&N realizes that the device they developed is having the wrong target audience. They were probably hoping to get people to switch back to the Nook platform. Not, what is more likely, to sell a desirable device at a very competitive price point to have it filled with everything but Nook ebooks.

Long-time Nook user with NST, GL2, GL3. I use the GL2 as my main read, not fond of IR touch. I'm glad to see the GL4 has Bluetooth, it must have cost them $0.50 as an option on the WiFi module. 8GB is pretty small for a $200 device. Would 16GB have blown the budget? I wonder what processor they have. The i.MX6 Solo Lite has a long beard by now. I wonder how much DRAM it has. I would love to see a teardown. I use a wired clicker (into the console UART) on my GL2 to turn pages. With Bluetooth this could be cleaner. A handheld clicker or even footpedal might be useful. https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/irigblueboard/ |

This confirms the expected. The new device is VID=2080, PID=000c (The GL3 is PID=000b, The GL2 is PID=000a) A friend on XDA tells me that the new device is using the same old i.MX6 SoloLite. The DRAM has been upped from the GL3 to 1GB. |

On the other hand, $200 is pretty cheap for a waterproof, 7.8" eReader with a headphone jack. I'm guessing they're hoping to release 16GB for a higher price. But, with Barnes & Noble, who knows.
