The Fire HD10 I bought for my son about 1.5 years ago has a slot for a microSD card but we don't use one, since the built-in 64-gigs is plenty for his needs. If you mean an earlier model, then I don't know. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 05-24-2019 at 02:53 PM. |

Yes,. Recent generation models can accept an external card , but there is no internal SD card which can be swapped out, upgraded. Internal memory and storage are fixed components, not something that end users can mess with. Nothing in a fire tablet is designed to be removable or replaceable, and ,Amazon do not offer repairs. It is a wasteful "send the wiole thing to land fill if any component fails " and offer the customer a discounted replacement business model. So more of the planet's irreplaceable rare metals get buried (end of eco rant ).
Support for external cards is somewhat buggy, unless they fixed it recently. Major brands such as Samsung would not play nice with fire OS. Many many complaints in Amazon forums and product reviews. None of the fire HDX models had card slots. |

but again my PC says not there ... it makes noise bleeping .. but that's all. Was wondering if Fires used SD Cards inside. It has a 254 gig in out side slot. I use it for Vudu & Amazon moves it fairly full now My 7" kindle Fire HD 2013 ... 32 gig [no slot] I use it for Immersive Reading .. aubible ebooks. My PC says it also invisible I seem to be the Queen of having Invisible devices ![]() ![]()

PC & Fires get Rebooted all the time. PC makes a Bleeping noise when fire connected to & from the PC. PC Charges Fires. That's ALL it does. They are Not listed under Devices...nor Calibre nor in Drivers. PC claims they are Not there. I have: Rebooted, Factory Reset & done everything I was told to do both by Amazon Tech & HP Tech & several people on MobileRead. I even put Brand New Hard Drive in PC.

This starts to sound like you have a faulty usb cable or SD reader.
Just for clarification - You have opened the Clara and removed the SD card - You do have either a built in SD reader on your computer OR a USB attached SD reader connected to your PC - If it is a USB attached reader have you tried a different usb cable and port on your pc |

Or it's an adaptor that plugs into a PC like a USB stick?
I've found some adaptors don't work with 32G or don't work properly with more than 4G or 8G cards. If you are using an adaptor, or a card reader fitted to a desk top PC (I've never had a reliable one of those, only built in ports on laptops or external USB adaptors seem to be reliable) ensure it's really SDHC compatible. Same may apply to microSD to regular SD card adaptors in a laptop slot or a USB "stick" slot. I've had all kinds of weird results with dodgy adaptors. |
