I've afraid those cockroaches have mutated all the way to Peru. (Not that there's anything wrong with cockroaches!)

There are now 4 titles available. I purchased "The Nest" (based upon your enthusiasm; also, years and years ago, I owned this book but got rid of it, never having read it).

I also picked up "When Darkness Loves Us," which looks deliciously perverted.

Those intros are GREAT.

Thanks for bringing these to my attention.

Now back to finishing "Philip Roth and the Jews," by Alan Cooper, and then maybe dip into a sedate female cozy sleuth. "The Nest" will be coming up in about 1 week.

Now you've infected me. I also picked up When Darkness Loves Us. I will admit, I wasn't enthused about it because of the cover. I have an old, unfounded prejudice against the old trope of China dolls in old-timey clothes on a horror cover. However, the synopsis sounds very good.

A couple that I picked up on sale:

The Well by Jack Cady is $2.99 at Amazon US. An 80's horror novel resurrected by Valencourt.

Quote:
Years earlier, John Tracker fled the insanity of his family and their house, a centuries-old monstrosity that his grandfather Theophilus rigged full of hallucinatory tricks and vicious death traps designed to capture the Devil. Now middle-aged, John receives word that the place is to be demolished to make way for a freeway, and he decides to revisit it with his girlfriend Amy Griffith before its destruction. But when a blizzard traps them inside the house, they will be forced to contend with the dangers hidden within: strange time-shifts, murderous traps, and something evil that stalks the halls in the form of John's grandmother Vera. As the terror mounts, John and Amy will make the horrifying discovery that Theophilus's mad ambition to trap the Devil may have succeeded only too well...
It sounds good. But there's a very good review at LibraryThing that has me doubting my purchase...

I also picked up The Deep by Michaelbrent Collings ($2.99 at Amazon US). I love haunted ships/lighthouses and horror at sea.

Quote:
When a rogue wave nearly capsizes a boat carrying a group of divers, the first priority is to find out what happened, and how badly they've been hurt. But their sights soon turn to what has happened below: the seafloor has changed. And the way it has changed is too strange to believe, but offers possibilities too tempting to ignore.

None of the divers has the equipment necessary to safely explore what lays below them, but driven by desperation, by greed - and a few by a chance at salvation - they all descend to the darkest, most dangerous of places.

They will look for treasure. They will look for hope. They will look for the one thing that is most important to them, and will find that it has been offered as bait on a hook. Because in the darkest depths, an ancient creature has awakened; a creature of unsurpassed evil, and unforgiving cruelty.

The divers will descend to it willingly. But will they be able to escape... The Deep?

Well, I just went apesh*t and purchased "The Well," also. He looks like a great writer!

Interesting cover on "The Deep." I don't know if I'd have the guts to arrange my name that way.

FWIW, I recall reading "The Tribe" back in the day and liking it. Author Bari Wood turned out a number of well-regarded novels, including "Twins" (which was the basis of the Cronenberg film "Dead Ringers").

The 5th book in the Paperbacks From Hell series will be "The Spirit" by Thomas Page.

Hopefully the price on all these titles will drop eventually.

ETA: Just discovered that you can subscribe to the series in ebook (either MOBI or EPUB) format. All 5 books for $29.99.

^ Thank you for the info on subscribing.

For ebooks, that would be about a $5 savings.

I like the way his name appears on most of his books, almost like a logo. Something about it reminds me of '90's horror paperbacks. For an author that appears to be self published, his covers are very nice.

Looking through my library, The Deep is the fourth book of his that I've picked up. but I haven't read any of them yet. I'd better get on that. I've already decided that I'll pick up his new novel The Terminal, when it goes on sale. At the very least, he has a knack for interesting ideas.

One of the most important writers of contemporary literature and a Nobel-prize contender, Joyce Carol Oates, has a book of of novellas available for only $1.99.

"The Doll-Master: And Other Tales of Terror," is available from Amazon U.S.A.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AGZ8LOK...orrorstreet-20

---ADDED---

It looks like it just went up to $6.63 ????
It appears as if Amazon just now 'corrected' it to the higher price.

I've never seen Bats and I don't care for Aerosmith. but the poster is pretty neat and will likely one day convince me to watch the movie. If it were the cover of a novel, I'd snap it up. Very nicely done.
