font size changing when converting

When I use calibre's epub to azw3 conversion on the downloaded epub for this book: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/42664 it uses things like "font-size: 1.29167em;" in the CSS. Whereas for this book https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/42259 it uses the usual "font-size: 1em;". In the conversion settings under Look & Feel I have Disable font size rescaling unchecked. What is in the first book that's making it use the "weird" font size? |

one clue is that as a fraction, 1.29167 is 93/72. 72 is a popular point size. less sure about 93 though you may also sometimes see 1.11111 which is 80/72 and 0.909091 which a scale down of 1.1 to 1 change it to 1.3 if you want extreme neatness in your CSS |

But I'm trying to figure out what's triggering this difference. Both of the EPUB css files look unremarkable to me. If I had a unix system I'd use diff on their respective css files.

Is it having to convert font words like large, small....or are there differnces between main body font size and paragraph ones.? I see many strange decimals if a main calibre body font is 1.1 Or 1.2 em, not 1 em. You can post entire CSS inside code tags for other eagle eyes here. If desperate |

Isn't there a "windows subsystem for linux" that has diff?

I'm not going to pollute my windows system with linux. I'm being sarcastic because before I retired one of my jobs was a Solaris and Linux system administrator. I'm a big fan of linux for servers but I think it's a bit silly to use it on a desktop. If I really wanted to play with Linux I do have a Raspberry Pi I could dust off and reinstall it on. |

Yep - Microsoft's Windows Subsystem for Linux; version 1 is rather awkward to enable, but version 2 should be easier, it's a full blown kernel, should be in the next Windows. You might have to install one of the Linux Apps (Ubuntu, Debian, Arch etc) to get diff. BR |

i think you'll need to post the CSS of the 2 books, if there are definitely no in line styles elsewhere

The only non-numeric font size was used for the first sentence in Gods of the North which used a "smaller" font size.
