The three Chandler bundles present the books in chronological order. Start with the Federation Survey Service bundle found here. Continue with the Far Traveler Couriers bundle here. Finish with the Rim Worlds Commodore bundle found here.

If the bundles are no longer available, you can still use them as references for the order of the books.

Great stuff!

Simon.
I have just ordered the ebook of book 2. Just a couple of questions. When are the next two going to be released? Also, I appreciate the effort you and Freemantle are going to but why do I have to wait up to 48 hours for them to deliver to my Email? They need to set up a server and send out a download link by email when the order is placed. Nevertheless, thanks for this and I will be checking my email constantly now as I need more Hal.

I just came here to ask that very question. Why do we have to wait up to 48 hours for delivery of an ebook?

I do like the price though.

Simon,

You might want to suggest to your publisher that they require less information when the customer is using Paypal. It's an eBook and I'm not using a credit card, they shouldn't need my street address and phone number.

Looking forward to reading #2.

TeleRead has put up a nice article on Simon, Hal Spacejock, and his views on DRM (as well as a release date for his next books ).

I'll suggest that now. Don't forget these are their only ebooks, so they probably used the default settings for Paypal (printed books always require a delivery address.)

Cheers

48 hours is a worst-case situation. E.g. if you order after office hours on Friday night, the publisher's staff won't be around on the weekend.

Re the delivery, Fremantle Press are selling the books very cheaply. Once they establish what the demand is, they can budget for additional programming. As a proof of concept I wrote a php script which automates the delivery of a file once a Paypal payment has been confirmed, and I'll pass that to their programmers when they're ready to take the system to the next level.

Re the other two books, they're all to be released today. It's 8am Monday here in Western Australia, and I suspect they're going online as I type this.

Cheers

Thanks for the support!

If the ebooks are a success my publisher will almost certainly follow up with others from their 30+ years of backlist, and I've no doubt other publishers will take the plunge too.

I'm not suggesting I have that much influence, but getting rid of DRM on ebooks requires a tipping point, just like we've seen with MP3s. A few people may order one of the Hal ebooks just to show support, even if it's not really their genre - in the end, we should all benefit.

Thanks, already bought them all. One of the first series I bought as ebooks. Read them on a PDA but it works.

I first read them in my teen years and just loved them. A lot of fun. Can't wait to start the Hal Spacejock series now.

There are actually versions of the PayPal cart specifically created for digital delivery. If none fit your publisher's needs, integrating the PayPal API is not a difficult task and they should have the IT staff capable of cranking out working code in less than a couple work days.

I would not have a problem with a CC number as I use PP's plug-in that lets me generate CC #'s for a specific number of charges. One-off purchases and purchases from any site that is not a major retailer all get a one-time use card number each time I make a purchase.
