Great news!
How can one tell if a version like 5.10.1.3 is a factory image or it was already updated to the same end user version? |

Mind, I don’t think untouched vs OTA matters as long as you have PW4 5.10.1.3 or older. The PW3 5.9.6.1 factory firmware worked for both brand new PW3 and OTA-updated ones. Some firmware versions even required an update to OTA 5.9.6.1 before the factory firmware could be installed. I expect it’ll probably be the same scenario here. |

A whole-hearted thank you to ilovejedd from me here too, it worked perfectly.
Additional thanks to everyone who made the requisite tooling around the jailbreak, you're awesome. (PS: If you need help hosting the file, feel free to DM me and I'll drop it onto my mirror ![]() |

Figure it's good enough.

Great job by @ilovejedd!
Unfortunately, there is no customer firmware 5.10.1.3. As we can see here https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...deId=200203720 one can download and install 5.10.2 or 5.11.1 only. It means that after installing customer firmware jailbreak becomes impossible if lost. So be careful and do not forget to reinstall the hotfix before every update, otherwise you can lose jb. In the meantime, we have several reports that users do not install customer firmware, staying on the factory fw, and experience no problems, at least CoolReader works fine. |

I suppose I'll post this before I go to bed and forget, I'm mirroring the factory firmware here.

Although you are correct, Amazon is no longer posting a source release archive for every update image they release. I did not notice when they changed their release policy. Last edited by knc1; 04-24-2019 at 07:15 PM. |

Yes! Success!!! Thank you @ilovejedd! I bought my first PW4 back in November 2018 and (sadly) let it update to 5.10.1.2. I have kept it at that firmware and in airplane mode since then. (8G with Special Offers, G000 PP07 8333). (I have a second PW4 I bought shortly after the 1st that I was able to jailbreak back in November.) Today I removed Special Offers, then installed 5.10.1.3 factory firmware, then installed the jailbreak and other related files, then installed 5.10.1.3 customer firmware. I don't plan to update the firmware further since I use KOReader. I am so grateful for your expertise and sharing! |

Long time listener, first time caller.
So I have a KW4, 8GB, S/N: G000 PP11 9044. F/W: 5.10.1.3 So do I follow the steps in the first post of this thread, but using the update_pw4_5.10.1.3_factory.bin file? Thank you! |
