Nope, not bored at all. Every time I look at my Kobo Aura ONE, I'm grateful such a device exists. No desire to go back to paper, being able to change font size and lighting to suit my eyes was just such a game changer!

Most of my reading is via library ebooks, no big change there, always have relied on the library for reading material. But SO nice to just be able to turn on WiFi and retrieve or return books!

Hope e-ink readers live on forever!

My wife is happy that I switched to ebooks. We were running out of places to keep my books when I switched.
For those of you who think electronic books aren't real, is electronic money not real also?

A combination of Harry and Apache for me, I've bought very few paper books over the last 5 years and buy hundreds of ebooks each year. I simply don't have the room for all my books if they were in paper (I still have hundreds of paper books, but most are in boxes now) and I like having my entire library with me at all times.

When someone says eReader, I don't differentiate between the technology. My main eReader is my iPad, but I also have a number of eInk devices for various purposes.

Yeah no way would I have room in my house for all these books...lol which is why e-readers are great. Plus the print is too tiny and paper books are hard to hold. Those trade paperbacks the publishers like these days are especially awkward. Used to love the regular mass market paperbacks way back when though. My Kobo fits in my purse too and I take it everywhere.

Forgot to add that ebooks are much cheaper too since I usually only buy them on sale. The pros outweight the cons I’d say!

We are moving into a new house (again) and I don't miss the boxes and boxes of books to haul. Granted, I've collected several cookbooks and health related books in the past year, but at least my entertainment reading doesn't weigh anything. I don't see every going back to paper for entertainment reading.

I think ebooks are the real books now. Of course you can also get a paper imitation. I imagine that when bound books replaced scrolls there were similar comments.

If you read "The Magnificent Ambersons" you'll see similar comments about those new-fangled cars and the silliness of trying to replace a horse and buggy with those novelties. I predict cars will eventually succeed.

As for the novelty wearing off that happened for me pretty quickly. The point of a book is it's contents. The novelty of the format isn't very important and should wear off quickly or there's a risk that it'll overshadow the content.

Last year my wife finally convinced me to free up some space in the house. All of my paperbacks are now in boxes in alphabetical order. Each box has the name of the first and last author on it and a number. These correspond to a master list I also have. The boxes are now stored in a store room of my new store. It took me a couple of truck loads to move them from the house. If I ever do want to read a paper book, whether because it is not available as an eBook or if I have to do jury duty, I will be able to find the specific book I want to read. Yes my wife thinks I am strange. (she always has) You should ask her about the first time we met.

My recent purchases of paper books have been mostly out-sized coffee table editions with plenty of artwork. I do still regularly read paper books that I've taken out of the library although my Book Pillow has become necessary for reading hard cover books of any size for any length of time.

Like others have said, running out of space at home for paper books and the ability to have a portable library on hand made e-book readers very attractive at the beginning. Now that my eyes have lost their youthful sharpness, e-book readers have become more and more important to me. I have sometimes taken paper books from the library only to return them unread because the small print makes them too tiring to read. I very rarely buy paper books these days, and cherish my e-reader. Bored with it? I never leave home without it!

I use a slightly different method. I put paperback books where I also have the ebook in a big plastic box with a lid in alphabetic order. I've got five big containers with a sixth being filled. I probably need to go back through my paperback bookcases to pull out the books where I've bought the ebook in the last year or so. Most of the hardback books that I've replaced with ebooks are given to libraries, with the exception of a few I want to keep. I still have a few hundred hard backs that haven't been replaced, mostly because the ebook hasn't come out yet. I probably need to comb those as well.

Actually, the novelty factor is what put me off of buying an ereader in the first place. The first Kindles and Nooks seemed like neat gadgets, but of course they could never take the place of a paper book.

I bought the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight because finally the bug bit me. I drove home figuring I wasted my money on a gadget I'd set aside pretty quickly. But then I picked up reading my current book on the Nook and as Jeff Bezos said, the device just sort of disappeared. Reading from an eink screen was as effortless as reading a paperback. If the device were more novel, I'd likely have stopped using it.

Buying an ereader has had a bunch of unexpected advantages. It's saved me lots of money on books (ebooks go on sale more often and at cheaper prices than paper books, at least those I'm interested in do). It's also prompted me to try indie authors (their books tend to be more expensive in the paper world). I also don't have to worry about packing an extra book when I take a trip.

It was the same for me. When my husband got a Kindle as a gift in 2010. He asked me if I wanted one too ? I thought no why would anyone want a reading gadget, unless you just liked gadgets anyway. Then I went to B&N and saw the first nook e ink device. It drew me in because I could also see the covers in color. Then I tried reading on it for the first time and I loved it. It also had buttons like the Kindle did at that time. I then asked for a nook for Christmas in 2010 and have never looked back. While doing some spring cleaning recently I found a brand new still in package book light with extra battery enclosed. I must have gotten it before they started to make lighted Paperwhites which was my second e ink device. I gave the book light to a friend who still reads only paper books. She told me the battery still worked on the book light

Within an hour or so of seeing me reading on the Nook, my wife decided she wanted one too. We went back the next day and bought her one. We had to dive a ways because our local B&N was sold out. Sad how far Nook has fallen since those days.

Have you tried giving your friend an old ereader? I think heavy readers don't want an ereader until they actually use one.

My first eReader was a Nook too. In my case, my mom (elderly) bought one, and of course I was expected to provide technical support. At that time I was in a different state, so I thought it was prudent for me to buy one for myself so I could learn how to use it and then help my mom with hers. I liked it, and used it going forward. For a while. Until rising eBook prices took me out of that market and back to paperbacks (used ones, mostly). Now I've moved back to almost total eBooks, this time on a Kindle, with most books acquired on loan from libraries. Figuring out the library thing - join multiple libraries so you don't have to wait forever for your desired book to become available - eBooks are once again appealing to me.
