I've heard of N.K. Jemisin, but have never read any of her work. Her list of award nominations is impressive. I wonder if it has to do with her background in psychology?

Thanks for that. Dark fantasy (which is what the book sounds like to me) isn't usually my bag. The Jemisin review and the fact that the book sounds more literary than most of that stuff convinced me to try it.

Incidentally, the book sounds like something Clive Barker would have written. Other reviewers say Neil Gaiman. Makes me wonder why Barker doesn't get name-dropped more.

The Quantum Magician by Derek Künsten is £0.99 at Amazon UK today.

It's a novel that was serialised in Analog SFF (I think it was Analog). A con job with a background of a fractured humanity, and some nods to Quantum Theory (although the use they make of entangled particles isn't possible, as far as we know.)

I'm reading it at the moment, having bought it last month for £1.99!

Tuf Voyaging is also available from Kobo (Canada but likely US as well). Kobo shows 2 versions but the Random House version is the one that is on sale. I enjoyed the stories when originally published in Analog so clicked the buy button.
