Efficient Workflow For Multiple Directories

Even though I am a heavy users I constantly am discovering more efficient ways to do things.

Unfortunately I have not come-up with a way to efficiently load books from multiple directories where the directories contain just one or two books (i.e. lots of directories; not that many books).

When I get overwhelmed I sometimes will copy a bunch of them to a new folder and then point Calibre at the new folder so it can go searching for books.

Is there a recipe or a plugin or something that would substitute for lack of multiple selection on opens? Is there some hidden GUI setting that turns on multiple selection?

This is on Windows:

I download documents into folders based on source, so in my Downloads\Documents folder, I have sub-folders for Stratfor, RandCorp, McKinsey's etc.

I have a shortcut to calibre.exe in my Send to folder, this allows me to add the downloaded 'books' to calibre via the Send To context menu item in Windows File explorer. So for each 'source' sub-folder, I select the files I want add, and Send them To calibre.

Once they're in calibre and I've knocked the metadata into shape I delete the files from Downloads\Documents.

What OS? I move folders around all the time. Multi-select works on both (at the same time)
(for range) select first: hold the Shift key : click last
(for random) Select first: hold the CTRL key: click each once (a second click, deselects your goof)

If you're referring to my use of Windows explorer Send To, the calibre command only accepts file paths, as per its doco

Quote:
calibre [options] [path_to_ebook]

Launch the main calibre Graphical User Interface and optionally add the e-book at path_to_ebook to the database.
In my previous post I forgot to add that I use the optional GetFilename plugin to store the file path in a custom column, it's why I download into 'source' folders.

Windooz

Windows 10

Add Book fuction.

Add file & Add .rar/.zip allow multiple selects (as describe above).

Folder based options do not.

What I M looking for is select multiple folders and calibre searches all those folders for books. Right now i fake it by copying a bunch of folders to a new root and using "search mutiple folders" from the root. It much faster than single adds even wth the extra copy

copy and paste into the auto-add folder (preferences: adding books to create)

Calibre will toss the copy when it has done the book (You may need to 'empty trash' frequently if you are tight on HD space.

Auto Add does not support folders, only files
