I was sort of hoping for a shower tonight (because I am really grubby from all the cleaning I did today), and luckily Teresa said it would be ok for me to shower at her house.

One of the cats is missing .... I think he got into the garage somehow, and then out when I had to open the garage to put some of the stuff from the porch in there. I hope he's ok .... but I won't know until he either turns up in the house, or gets tired of being locked in the garage ... or I see him wandering around outside.

Have I mentioned in the last few hours how much I HATE living in Horseshoe Bay, Texas???
Hey, If you weren't so tired you could do that all by yourself. It's rather easy.
Kill power switch.
Close incoming water valve.
Open safety valve on top to relieve pressure.
Open drain at the bottom after finding a way to evacuate water. (hose garden to a drain is good)
Open bottom small access cover after removing two screws.
Unscrew element with spanner wrench.
Bring the part to a local hardware center and find help for a replacement.
Cost of around 15bucks.

Do all in reverse order and voilà.

Usually the bottom element goes out first. You can check the top one too, they're identical.

You poor baby. (No sneer, just sympathy.) Whatever possessed you to move there... I had an in-law who lived there for a while, and have been there visiting. For non-Texans, Horseshoe Bend is a constant-level lake enclave North of San Antonio, West of Austin, that (outside the old-money Bubble enclaves like Olmos Park (SA), Highland Park (Dallas), and Riverbend (Houston)) is the most arrogantly snobbish place in Texas. Full of people who made millions and think everybody in the world should bow and scrape. Most average Texans try to forget the place exists.

Red wouldn't ever take a job there....(Though he might send BadGoodDeb in with a sword and a diplomatic passport....)

Maybe we need to find you a better place to live. There's some cheap stuff upstate here in NH, and as the "Live Free or Die" state, we don't care how many cats you have. (I once did housework for a woman with 21 cats and 5 dogs.)

Teresa was kind enough to feed me after letting me shower there. I am in bed and about to take a few vitamin-V and then hit the sack.

Yes, I know that I could probably replace the elements myself. I watched the last plumber do it ... but, I'm barely holding on physically right now, so I think I'm just going to let Sean take care of it for me.

Ralph .... "Bay" not "Bend" .... but yes, arrogantly snobbish would pretty much describe about 99 percent of the people in Horseshoe Bay. I was talking to someone about that today. She was asking me why, of all the places I could have moved to in Texas -- some of which have a lot of very nice people in them -- I moved to a place full of of the most snobbish people on the planet (the lady I was talking to lives in Texas .... but not in HSB).

In fact, most of the people that I have come to like and consider friends don't live in Horseshoe Bay and have a very low opinion of the people who do. And, by "low opinion" I mean that, while they acknowledge that they have wads of money, the people who live here are very shallow people generally, and not the sort who care much about anyone who can't help them advance socially or monetarily.

Let's just say that I am not impressed with any of them. I'm trying really (really) hard not to tar the entire state of Texas with the same brush.

I'm going to clean out the litter boxes, do my evening chores, take my meds and dream of living some place where people are actually nice. At least, I hope I dream about that .... last night's dream was a bit strange .... it starred pshrynk and Tom Selleck (who I knew before he became famous .... nice guy), and no, I've never seen pshrynk. I just know that it was him in the dream. And pshrynk and Tom and I were all sitting in a canvas pup-tent out in a field at night, just talking about stuff ... then I wandered off into the dark and left the two guys in the tent talking and drinking beer, and then I woke up.

Yes, I know .... that will be $300 ... pay the laddy at the door.

...
Are you sure it wasn't me, because I look exactly like Tom Selleck...well, except for the bit about looking exactly like him...actually, come to think, I look more like "Higgins" (Jonathan Quayle Higgins III).

I've had a couple of odd dreams lately. The oddest one was the with Zombie Loved One throwing live scorpions on my crotch to turn me into a zombie before the zombies got me and ate my brain was a good one (apparently scorpion stings turn people into zombies...it wasn't necessary for them to sting my crotch; that was just Zombie Loved One's idea of a laugh, the bastiche).

Cheers,
Marc

Oh Ricky, I'm sorry. Being a native Texan and all I kinda feel responsible, even though I know it makes no sense. Never been to HSB, and now I'm really glad, though I have been to Houston, and consider it somewhat of the armpit of Texas (sorry to any Houstonites around).
But yeah, try to resist tarring all Texas with the same brush, if I had housing and job opportunity, I'd be trying to convince Chris to let us move back. (Well, let ME move back, he's Chicago born and bred, and up til he met me was convinced that only two things come from Texas...).

Today I booked my return flight to Sydney, and two nights' accommodation in the city for the 24th and 25th. Yay! to decent bookstores! Yay! to urban photography! Yay! to unlimited shopping! Yay! to the Golden Mile! Yay! to coffee shops! Yay! to city buzz! Yay! to naked jumping up and down on a hotel room's king-sized bed!

(Now, do I take my Iliad, or a pbook, or do I take a notebook and pen, and do I take my iPod Touch, and what combination of cameras and lenses do I take, or do I just take my pocket-digi, or do I take one of the old rangefinders, or...OMG! I'll probably have to wear shoes again!...)

Cheers,
Marc (for whom packing is an act of exponentially increasing variables failing to be pared away by an innate indecisiveness)

Really? I walked outside this morning with my north face coat and was shocked when I got a breeze of WARM AIR!

The birds are chirping! The sun is shining! My window is open! It's spring!!! And then a bee came over to me (the stinging kind) and I realized it's not all good. But that's OK, it's beaaaauuuttiful outside
