Could I please have an SD image for the N647? Thanks in advance. The SD card is partially damaged, the book starts, but does not work with the library

As you have replied to a post, I am assuming you have the N647 version of the WiFi, not one of the other two.

So my wife connected her kobo to the wifi yesterday for the first time in years, and noticed there was a firmware update.
She now has no books and I can't get them to load. Found out I'm not the only one with this problem.
Would really appreciate the image for the N647 so I can get this fixed. While I'm in there, maybe I'll snip the wifi antenna....

That's strange. Kobo recently dropped support for the WiFi. That should have meant that these devices couldn't connect to the internet or download firmware. But, I haven't heard of anyone having a repeat of this problem after using the image.

Good Evening Everyone,

The same thing happened to me. I have a Kobo Mini N705. Used it for years without issue. I became another victim of a forced upgrade. Very angry with the Kobo company right now. It's like having someone break in and barge into your living room and hooking up a newer cable box. Talk about draconian and invasive. Anyhow, anger and negativity aside..

I have been reading through a few different threads, but at the moment unsure of exactly what to do. My unit got bricked. Attempting a reset results in a green light flashing, then blue, then blank black screen followed by a blank white screen.

The best solution that I can see is flashing a .img of older firmware onto the internal micro sd card and rebooting the system. However before I request a link to a .img file, I have a question:

I was logged out of my device (for a stupid reason.. I thought the library had a glitch.. I know) before this horribleness happened. If I reflash the sd card, it will most likely ask me to connect to kobo desktop or wifi again to login. Is it possible to downgrade to older firmware and be able to log back in without upgrading or somehow blocking the upgrade?

Thank you for reading and I appreciate all responses. This is also my first post here and I believe in karma, so if I can't pay it directly back, I'll pay it forward somehow.

If you don't want to use the latest available firmware for your device, there is plenty of discussion here on how to install your preferred version and avoid updating. You will need to do a search to find them.

Many thanks again. I believe I found a downgrade guide for the Glo where you let the device update to the latest firmware - then delete and swap 3 files from your preferred firmware version. Since it's practically the same firmware for both Mini and Glo, the guide should work fine.

Much appreciated David. This was the story I received from my wife, it's very possible the firmware had already been downloaded to the device and she just finally clicked on it.

Either way, a huge thank you in helping me at least make an attempt at getting the thing readable again.
