Extinct by Ike Hamill . I believe I paid the now outrageous price of $1.99 when I bought it.

Quote:
The snow won’t stop, and there’s something dangerous out there in the blinding storm. One by one, as they try to reach safety, people disappear. Robby only has one chance for survival. He has to escape the little Maine island where his family has lived for generations. Back on the mainland, things are even worse.

Miles away, Brad battles the same blizzard. Alone, he attempts to survive as the snow envelops his home. When the storm breaks, he makes his way south to where the snow drifts end and the world lies empty.

Join Brad, Robby, and the other survivors as they fight to find the truth about the apocalypse and discover how to live in their new world.

^ I see that I got this in January, 2018, from Amazon.

It's been sitting in calibre all that time - unread.

Has anyone read this thing?

Hey, that one sounds fun! I like westerns. I like horror. But I have rarely read any weird westerns. I also think the cover is pretty decent for an indie book.

A similar book that's also on sale is The Guns of Santa Sangre by Eric Red, $3.90 at Amazon.

Quote:
They’re hired guns. The best at what they do. They’ve left bodies in their wake across the West. But this job is different. It’ll take all their skill and courage. And very special bullets. Because their targets this time won’t be shooting back. They’ll fight back with ripping claws, tearing fangs and animal cunning. They’re werewolves. A pack of bloodthirsty wolfmen have taken over a small Mexican village, and the gunmen are the villagers’ last hope. The light of the full moon will reveal the deadliest showdown the West has ever seen—three men with six-shooters facing off against snarling, inhuman monsters.
Eric Red is a scriptwriter who most famously (to me anyway) wrote The Hitcher and Near Dark (both of which you should see if you haven't already done so).

Of the four you mentioned, the only one I read is The Woods Are Dark. Memories are hazy now, but I remember enjoying it. Here's a review I wrote for LibraryThing.

Into the Fire is also $0.99. And Blood Games and Among the Missing are $1.50 each.

Of those, I've read Among the Missing. I rated it three and a half stars, but didn't write a review. Just understand, the best and the worst Laymon books are going to be schlock. But at his best he had a propulsive quality to his writing that would keep you reading even the most ludicrous stuff.

(For what it's worth, I pick up e-copies of any Laymon book that goes on sale. Even the bad ones. So I may have low standards)

You didn't ask me, but I'm going to give you an answer.

Laymon writes wonderful B-movie, hyperactive hormonal horror/thriller novels with a lot of action and a lot of dialogue. All of his books zip right along.

I like him a lot.

I remember thinking Come Out Tonight was a stinker, but I enjoyed Island. Hey, I wrote reviews for each. I should get back in the habit. It helps me remember quite a bit. Here's the reviews for each if you're interested: Island, Come Out Tonight

I'm fairly sure I shared this before. But:

The Devil's Bed by Doug Lamoreux is $0.99 at Amazon

Quote:
While touring an old castle in France, Brandy Petracus finds a graveyard of Templar Knights executed for practicing black magic. Long forgotten by the world, this ancient cemetery is known to the locals as the Devil's Bed... and its occupants do not rest in peace.

Brandy finds herself the leader of an eclectic group besieged by resurrected Templar knights - craving their blood. Vampirism, dark humor and flashbacks to 14th century Paris tell Brandy's story of commitment and sacrifice, as she is forced to hole up in an ancient chapel with her friends and fight for survival.

But the Devil's Bed has yet to surrender all of its secrets.
