Having a frontlight, even when used at the lowest setting, improves contrast tremendously. Unless you only use it in bright, direct sunlight in which case I suppose it wouldn't make a difference. But if you are able to compare an eInk screen with no frontlight and one with a frontlight on - in typical indoor lighting, you should see a significant improvement in the one with the light. (The screen background will look much whiter.)

When the frame is white, the screen subjectively looks unpleasantly dark. That is just the law of nature.
White is absolutely unacceptable, especially for 10.3". For a tiny 5" or 6" white may be justified as an extension of margins so the eyes are not tired from the contrast of the frame next to the text. But with 10.3" there is a lot of space for really wide margins.

My previous eReaders have always had black bezels, so I was worried about the white... but I actually really like it. Some times the bezel does look a little whiter than the screen, but it is not distracting. The even more surprising thing is that at certain times during the day, the screen will actually look whiter than the white bezel. I think that is when the ambient light is a little warmer, like in the early evening.

What you said about the white frame reducing eye fatigue is interesting. I think there may be something to that.

I too would like to be able to duplicate notes, and even just copy a page of notes and paste it into another note, or circle something I wrote and then copy and paste it into another page in the same note or a totally different note. I hope they are working on adding that type of functionality at some point.

Ah, so that may explain the big mystery as to why my old Boyue T62+ had a choice between Adobe and FB2 as the built-in reading app, with the FB2 rendering the text perfectly.... while the built-in reading app on the new Boyue Mimas sucks!

In the older models like the Boyue T62+, did they base the FB2 app on FBReader and fail to pay a licensing fee or something? Boyue really needs to get that sorted out and go back to the reading software that they used back then.

The Mimas is a great device in many ways, but it is an eReader and it's embarrassing that it renders text so poorly. To have so much extra space between letters and punctuation to the point of having a sentence ending period on the next page, or breaking up contractions between lines or pages, is ridiculous!

Is it possible that they don't realize how awful it is because the developers read Chinese instead of English? I hate that it's not really usable and I have to use a third party app for reading on the Mimas. If anybody is able to communicate with them about bugs and issues, could you please mention that? And hopefully they will also add the option to change the color temperature from the OS reading app menu, too.

The bamboo spark pen i have is a real pen so you can put a A5 paper sheet over the mimas screen and the note app and write on the paper and get an instant digital copy of it.
Very useful for academic usage, you can take notes and get both analog and digital copy of them.

I thought the opposite was true. iPhone probably uses gorilla glass, and here - very unlikely. Because the size (area) of the 10.3" screen is so huge, the frame must be super stiff (and heavy) otherwise the glass might crack.
I'm sure it isn't.
And I'm afraid to drop the reader on the floor when I doze off while reading (it happens a lot). In such an event the cover would be left open too.
So you can imagine how happy I was about the flexible mobius screen.
No glass! Finally!
If only OB Note had a card slot and buttons...

Still every second iPhone display I see is broken

This german article states, that the Mimas' screen base is plastic. So I guess it is. On my own Mimas, I could not tell...both materials are indistinguishable...

There are two places where glass can appear. One is the base for the TFT while the other is the front of the device. The base for the TFT is the most vulnerable to breakage as it is thin. The font (top) layer is usually very heavy duty glass as it needed to distribute the front light evenly over the surface. The plastic base and front is flexible making it difficult to get the front light to work properly.

Why do you bother with koreader compared with the Boyuo build in one?
I have installed the koreader from the boyuo store but it looks much less attractive compared to the built in reader in my opinion. The fonts are fussy the background is gray. Probably I just have to adjust the settings?
Once again what are the koredaer benefits?

Sur there is glass somewhere! folks you cannot have front-light and no glass!
I have Maxcarta, mobius screen no front-light and Mimas has front-light, in my experience, touch lightly on the 2 screens is not the same, surely Mimas has screen glass!

Just one thing more, Sony dp-cp1 has no front-light and weight only 240 gr while Mimas has front-light and weight 340 gr, sure there is glass on the screen of Mimas.

Since Sony does not even say what battery is in there the battery alone in the mimas could be some of that double weight (4700mah) is a lot of grams probably about 110. The mimas also has speakers too. I do not think it has glass in the display as it just has the tft layer and the digitizer and that's it, the front light just shoots from the sides from small leds to create uniformity I believe.

One more, front-light in night mode is perfect, and weight isn't problem for me, the main problem is the bad design of software, except devices from Sony , my prs-t2, i bought in 2012 is better than Mimas bought it 2019!
Prs-t2 is only one-core cpu et only 256 kb of ram, so it's useless to have an octo-core cpu and 2 GB for making so badly!!

Those spec bumps are more for it being able to smoothly run android 6.0 vs 4.4, I don't use any of the stock apps on my mars so that is a different story for me. That being said with the mimas you would prob get it write notes as well as read and if the note apps suck and 3rd party's don't have good access to the hardware well...

By the way i would thank you, i was stuck with Google play service, you helped me!
I used third party app, infinity reader and gitden reader just for fun, theses app have epub3 fetures, but they didn't work as well as build-in app, so i prefer build-in app with theirs bugs than third app.
I regret that Sony has abandonned epub readers, it is the best sotfware designer up to now.

I have been assuming the surface of my Mimas is glass... but I wish Boyue would definitively confirm or deny that, since I never added a screen protector and don't want to scratch it with the stylus over time.

Right! Onyx Boox claim clearly that, screens are e ink Mobius, Boyue didn't, but all screen 10,3" from E ink are Mobius, they don't have glass module 10;3", so Mimas has a layer of glass. for front-light feature.
I think the main problem with chinese ereader devices is the the lack finished software, a device made by Sony last decade is better than the chinese devices made today.
To be fair, i have oneplus 5t smartphone , is perfect and am very satisfied with it.
