Kobo Clara HD - Page 8

If I just want an e-reader to read plain text, the Clara HD is gonna be just fine right?
Will I ever need more than 8GB for that?

Will use mainly on buss/train as well as reading before going to sleep so I do want backlight.

What size is a normal e-book? 10-15 MBytes?

After reading a review, both the written and YouTube it seems to be a very decent reader for the money

As a fellow Nook user, I can tell you Kobo readers are very nice. The only reason I haven't purchased a Clara is that I'm hoping they'll put out a Clara 2 that is waterproof. Dare to dream!

Well, that would bump up the price quite a lot right?

i'd prefer a 6" version of the H2O2 v2 with the same orange Comfort Light rather than the yellow one on the Clara HD. page turn buttons on the sides similar to the Kindle Voyage would seal it. waterproof i'll let Kobo decide on that one i've no use for it.

as you can see/tell i'm not particular fussy.

What makes you say that?

The Paperwhite 3 was priced at $120. The Paperwhite 4 added waterproofing and doubled the storage (4GB to 8GB) and it is priced at $129 (though regularly on sale for $100).

The Nook Glowlight was priced at $120. The Glowlight Plus added waterproofing and was priced at $130.

Both of those, I believe the $10 price increase had more to do with the market than the increased cost of waterproofing.

I don't have crystaldiskMark, since I'm on a Mac, but I have a similar program. Here is the speed test results for the Clara.

It isn't that great.

I replaced it with a 32GB Samsung Evo Plus card, that has faster speed tests.

From off, the Kobo boots up faster now. I've got my eyes out to see what else might be faster too.

Could you benchmark it for me in the Kobo ?

Interesting, I thought the price would be quite higher since it takes extra consideration with choice of material and how it's built

Waterproofing. Aside from a couple of Kobo models, most SD cards aren't removable anyway. 8GB of internal storage (the norm now) is plenty for most users. I have an old Kobo Aura that has an SD card slot. I have a 16GB card in there and after five years of use, not bothering to delete read books, only adding new stuff, I've used 3.88GB.

Waterproofing makes the device feel more rugged.

A plastic substrate would be good for that too, but one thing at a time and waterproofing seems it gives the PR team more to crow about, so it'll likely happen first.

my original Aura 6" like yours as 4GB of bulit in storage without the external micro SD card slot i would be over the 8GB limit. currently the books on my Aura and the books on the external SD card is around 9GB and counting. mainly kepubs and some epubs no pdfs in total 3236 books not that many compared to some.

one thing at a time is precisely the problem. for me a Clara HD v2 with waterproofing being the only difference from the original Clara HD wouldn't be a good enough reason/upgrade on it's own for me to even consider buying it.

but of course each to their own.

i agree it would be nice to have a plastic substrate on a new Kobo 6" ereader.

Aura Clara HD is a perfect choice for the usage you describe.
