Hmm. I've known about the Silver plan, but maybe just because I've cancelled and rejoined so much. I never noticed that it wasn't listed on any of the membership charts. Weird.

But if you just want to preserve credits, what about the Listener Light (or Inactive Listener) plan for $10/year? Is that not still available if you ask for it?

Gr8 to know about this plan! Audible's other plan is overkill for me, but this might be just the ticket.

Since the option disappeared on Audible's site, I hope that they are still offering it. If they are, I think that I'm going to spring for it.

I suppose that there isn't a trial offer for this plan. And I wonder if I'll be entitled to the credit sales and daily deals . . . .

I didn't ask, but isn't there some confusion about eligibility for sales with Listener Light?

Silver sounds fine to me, as credits won't pile up and I still get all the membership perks.

Well, they'll pile up at half the speed, potentially, and at the same cost per credit, but if that's good for you, well, then, um, good for you!

But you had cited the need to preserve credits, not to acquire more, so the $10/year plan, if available, seemed like the way to go.

Yes, I recall people have pointed out certain sales that didn't apply to Light members, but they do seem few and far between. The one year I had the plan, I didn't personally run in to that issue.

Downpour -- Rental of the Week -- exp 18 Mar
Quote:
Jake Cantrell Mystery (book 1)

For fans of Linwood Barclay, this exhilarating series debut by award-winning author Robert Mrazek features former Army officer Jake Cantrell as he tries to solve a series of murders at a small college town in upstate New York.

Unfairly disgraced former army officer Jake Cantrell has only one friend left: Bug, a wolf-dog he saved while serving in Afghanistan. Together, they try to put his bitter past behind him, and Jake settles for employment at the bottom rung of the campus security ladder of a small upstate New York college. But things only turn worse when the college’s richest and most powerful alumnus is found hanging from a campus footbridge on the eve of homecoming weekend.

Jake is convinced the man was murdered, but with no credibility to his name, no one agrees―at least not until a second body is found hanging from the same bridge. But as a vicious hurricane sweeps up the Eastern seaboard, the clock is ticking and it’s only a matter of time before the killer strikes again.

Trusting his instincts, Jake puts his own life in peril as he attempts to uncover the buried secrets at the heart of the murders in acclaimed author Robert J. Mrazek’s Dead Man’s Bridge, the first in a new heart-pounding mystery series sure to keep readers hooked until the very last page.
Rental FAQ
  • Spoiler:
    Quote:
When does my rental period begin?

Your rental timer will begin counting down when you first initiate the download on your device or 10 days after purchase, whichever comes first.
    Quote:
How long can I listen to a title?

All digital rentals provide a minimum of 30 days to listen to a book from the time you initiate your first download. With some of our longer books, such as Atlas Shrugged (63hrs), we extend the listening period to 60 days. You do have the option of purchasing a 5, 10, or 20 day extension after you have made your rental purchase.
    Quote:
How many times can I listen to my rental?

You may listen to a rental as many times as you would like until it expires.
    Quote:
Can I extend my rental time period?

Once you are logged into your Downpour.com account, you can purchase a time extension for any of your previous rentals via THIS link. After clicking “Extend Rental,” you have the option of purchasing a 5-day ($1.95), 10-day ($2.95) or 20-day ($4.95) extension. If your rental has not yet expired, the purchased time will be added onto your rental. (Example: if your rental has one day remaining, and you purchase a five-day extension, you will now have six days total before your rental expires.) If your rental has already expired, the extension will allow you to listen to your book again for the amount of time purchased.
    Quote:
Can I have the same rental on more than one device?

You may listen to your audiobook rental on as many personal devices as you own. Your rental time will be synced across all devices on which you have installed the Downpour app.

Catlady's action was what I planned to do when my own annual membership expires in a few days. Effectively, for $14 you get a credit plus five months of membership (two months + three months' suspension) while keeping your existing credits, which seems like a better value than $10 for Listener Light with its sketchy access to sales and promos and no credit. I figure I'd use up my credits by the end of the five months anyway.

I canceled(sp?) that, prematurely, last November because I was so disgusted with the plan. ha

I explicitly told CS (via chat) to change to the Silver plan upon expiration of my annual plan (a couple more weeks); their system changed me over immediately, added a credit, and charged me. I protested, and the credit and charge were removed, so now I won't be billed the first $14 till May 12. So that gets me to July 12 even without a hold--and that's around Prime Day and a possible great deal.

Wow! Very nice. I'll give it a try. Audible CS is erratic and no two people seem to get the same response, but I have nothing to lose.

Hmmm . . . I'm not a Prime member now. Are there some perks for Audible members, on Prime Day, if a person is a Prime member?

I signed up for the Silver Plan just a little while ago. Here's the relevant part of the chat transcript (with personal information omitted ). The first paragraph is obviously "canned" information--that may contain all of the information that you want to know.

Gurjeet: I'd like to let you know about our new Silver Plan. It's only $14 (plus applicable tax) every 2 months, instead of being charged every single month. This is a Bi-monthly plan in which you get 1 credit on your billing date and you get to use all of the normal membership benefits during this time, which include the ability to exchange any book ordered within the last 12 months days, no questions asked. This plan has become a great alternative option for customers who enjoy the Audible experience but prefer extra time to finish a book.
08:48 AM PDT Me: okay. let me look this over. please give me a second.
08:48 AM PDT Gurjeet: Would you be interested in taking advantage of this plan?
08:49 AM PDT Me: so it's 1 credit every 2 months?
08:49 AM PDT Gurjeet: Yes!
08:49 AM PDT Me: about what percentage of the audioboks on your site are only 1 credit? rough figure is fine
08:51 AM PDT Gurjeet: [My name] . . . 1 credit is equivalent to 1 audiobook, which means you can purchase the most expensive audiobook in an Audible regardless of its price.
Just to confirm, do you know about Easy Exchange Audiobooks feature?
08:52 AM PDT Me: oh, okay, great. some companies have 2 tiers--1 credit and 2 credits. that's the reason that i asked.
yes, i know about the easy thing
08:52 AM PDT Gurjeet: Just to confirm, do you want to know about 2 credits per month plan or about Annual plans?
08:53 AM PDT Me: now what the computer wrote said all membership benefits (or something to that effect). does that include sales that a member can take advantage of.
no, the silver plan sounds just right.
08:54 AM PDT Gurjeet: Yes, in this plan, you will have access to all the membership benefits such as sales, 30 % off or other eligible promotion.

Hi-OO Silver!

Does the Silver plan still give you the two free Originals every month? Not that that’s enough to make me consider it between cheap memberships, just curious.
