Calibre has a server. Both the Kobo Clara HD and the Kindle Paperwhite have experimental browsers which can connect to the server. You see the library. If you then download a book you seem to be able to view it in the browser. But, it does not appear in the e-reader library. Is there some extra step required?
In short, do you have to use a usb cable to transfer books from Calibre to a Kobo Clara HD ( or a Kindle Paperwhite)? If not, then can anyone point me to a simple explanation on how to do it without hacking the e-readers? Thanks. |

I answered you post about this in another thread. On my Kobo devices, I have never been able to read the book in the browser. It is always downloaded and added to the devices library.
I will check when I get a chance in case something has changed. For the record, the process I use is:
I have just checked this using a book from Porject Gutenberg. The only issue I had is that the add to the library used UTC time instead of local. It just fluked that the downloaded book wasn't the latest in the library when sorted by "Recent". Another few minutes and it would have been. |

Worked fine for me with EPUB (Glo HD/Aura HD) and MOBI/AZW3 (Paperwhite). Are you using TXT by any chance?

Do you have to set up the library in Calibre in any special way, or perhaps tell Calibre that I have a Kobo? It all works if I use a usb wire but that’s a pain. How does the Kobo know something has come in? Do you have to restart or refresh? I am missing something obvious. Maybe I’ll delete all books on the Kobo and try one download. Edit: I changed the port from 8085 to 8080 and it worked. Unfortunately 8080 is being used on that computer by another service, so I either change computer for Calibre or find a port, other than 8080, which works. Something is up with the port as it works consistently on the default port. I should try different ports. |

I just tried port 8081 with 3.40.1 on my Win10 box. Downloading epubs worked fine to my Aura ONE. It sounds like something is blocking sending the files on the Mac. No idea what it would be.

Could you try 8085 please? Might be something to do with that specific port. Odd that 8080 works fine for me.

No problems with port 8085. But, didn't you say you were running something else on 8080? I assume you are stopping that for the testing. What other configuration have you done on the Mac or elsewhere to allow this through any firewalls or routing? Maybe turn those things off, or try from another machine and see if it works there.

The problematic computer uses 8080-8082 for a variety of things. Just switched internet providers and that required routing. Will get to the bottom of all this. Must say, quite impressed with the Kobo. |
