200 dpi would be nice, but no SD card and no linux interoperability are both deal breakers for me.

I love my Kindle Paperwhite. I would love it more if it had an 8 inch screen. Come on Amazon, my eyes aren't getting any younger.

I wish Amazon would make a Kindle anywhere between 10" and 14" that can be folded in half for protection and easy transport.

This! Yes! Geez, if I had essentially a Kobo Forma (7.8" screen, super lightweight, soft grippy material, and natural lighting options) with access to the Amazon store, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Still crossing my fingers Amazon will crank out something like this. They have, after all, had some time to review the Forma and other e-ink Android devices that are coming out in competition to the Oasis. It seems like that approximately 8" screen size is a sweet spot.

I've held off on the Kobos, giving Amazon the benefit of the doubt. But if there isn't a 8inch screen by the end of 2019, I may need to jump ship. I started off with Nook, made the jump to Kindle...maybe it's time to try Kobo.

The 7.8" Kobo Aura ONE had most of that and is two years older than the 8" Forma. So, Amazon have had a lot longer to see the impact of the larger devices. That makes me feel like they don't consider it important. But, it did take them nearly five years to put out a device to compete with Kobo's 6.8" devices, so maybe they are still a couple of years away from the larger devices.

Amazon also was very late to the party in regard to waterproofing.

That is a good point. It seems like they've had plenty of time and awareness to bring out a larger sized reader. Amazon's pretty savvy about making and selling things at proper price point, and when they do that, they usually focus on whatever will sell in large volume. One wonders if maybe they decided things beyond a certain price point (large e-readers???) wouldn't sell well enough to recoup the development cost, so they gave up on it. Look at their Fire devices, they've gone for quantity and rock-bottom price over quality (by quality I mean things like higher quality, better resolution screens).

Amazon was first with a large e-ink reader and it didn't sell. I wonder if they learned from that. In a forum a vocal minority can make it seem like there's a demand but forums probably aren't the only source of Amazon's data.

Well, the DX was huge and weighed over a pound. The Kobo Forma, just as one example, weighs less than half that. I can one-hand my Aura One but no way I'd have been able to one-hand that baby! As for me personally, I think a roughly 8" screen is just about the sweet spot.

Are there sales figures, or was this a Bezos comment saying it didn't sell?

Looking at the number of reviews(US), there are more for the DX than the Voyage, Oasis, and Oasis 2, which makes me think that it sold more than the others?

I had a DX, and loved it for about a week. It was awkward, the page turn buttons were only on one side, and it was impossible to light the screen well for use in a dark room. In theory, the big screen should have made reading easy. In reality, it was just too big and heavy for everyday use.

Given the price of the Oasis, (which I have and love) if Amazon does make another large screen reader, it would need to be front-lit, which would make it crazy expensive, making it another niche item like the DX was.
