CBZ Images Auto Rotating
I am using CBZ for my manga on my Kobo Forma. For the dual page spreads I have the two pages combined and rotated 90 degrees followed by the two pages normally.
When I view the image on my PC the two page spread is correct and is sideways. I zip the folder contents and rename it to .CBZ and put it in my Calibre library and sync to my Kobo Forma. I do not have the images going through and utility to make the CBZ file and Calibre is not converting the format. When I get to the two page spread on my Forma the image is no longer rotated and the two page spread is not sideways. Is there something else I should be doing to the image to make it show up sideways? I use ImageMagick to merge the two pages and rotate the image. |

You can lock the Forma so it only rotates to either portrait mode or landscape mode. Go to 'Settings', 'Reading Settings' (pg 2) and choose your preferred orientation from the drop down menu under 'Reading orientation'.
It sounds like what you want is to lock the reader into landscape mode. |

Are you using JPEG metadata to set the orientation? Perhaps Kobo's software doesn't respect that. No idea what command line you should use in ImageMagick, though. I always use IrfanView for image processing.

I had to add a 3rd command to my batch file so now it is magick montage [1-2].jp* -tile 2x1 -geometry +0+0 out.jpg magick mogrify -rotate "270" out.jpg magick mogrify -auto-orient out.jpg Tested it out with one of the images and the Kobo sees it fine now. Now I just have to go though all of my Manga and go again. I kind of wish I could do what my Kindle did when it recognized two page spreads but it is not as effective as showing the double page first. Edit: Just in case someone else comes across this thread here is a simplified batch file that will merge two pages without having to rename them prior to running the file. magick mogrify -flop *.jp* magick montage *.jp* -tile 2x1 -geometry +0+0 out.jpg magick mogrify -flop *.jp* magick mogrify -rotate "270" out.jpg magick mogrify -auto-orient -quality 85% out.jpg Last edited by sekazi; 03-06-2019 at 10:55 PM. |

Note that Kindle Comic Converter will handle all this for you automatically...

I do not like how it crops the pages so the pages end up in all different sizes. It also compresses the zip file so it takes longer to load on the Forma than if you did not. I buy my Manga from Amazon and then make a CBZ for the Forma.
