Blood Work is the 12th in the John Jordan series by Michael Lister. It is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Blood-Work-Jo...dp/B01MPW54ZT/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Did Ted Bundy kill Janet Leigh Lester before he was captured?

If so, where did he hide her body? If not, who did and where are her remains?

Was America’s most notorious serial killer, Ted Bundy, responsible for the Broken Heart Murder? If not, who was, and can John Jordan figure it out and redeem his childhood hero?

John’s dad is still haunted by a murder he couldn’t solve four decades ago.

On the same weekend Janet Leigh Lester was crowned Miss Valentine at the pageant and Queen at the Sweethearts dance, she disappeared, her car found in an empty field, its interior covered in blood.

The case is decades cold now, but a new clock is ticking and John Jordan has one last chance to get it right. With no jurisdiction, no support, and no real hope of solving such an old, cold case, John isn’t taking no for an answer.

Can John do what his father was unable to? Find out in this thrilling, fast-paced stand-along mystery. Get Blood Work today and find out.

In my usual dilemma - I've never heard of Pulpwood Press, but SYKM lists Michael Lister's John Jordan series, and they are pretty picky, so I'm going with that...and a few people on this thread have reacted positively to other Lister/Jordan freebies...and it's free, so if you hate it, all you've lost is enough time to find out you hate it...

Woo-hoo!

The second in this series, Murder on Brittany Shores, has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. I have a couple of long plane flights coming up next week, so this is just in time!

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LY4RMS7
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/mur...ttany-shores-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
Ten miles off the coast of Brittany lie the fabled Glénan Islands. Boasting sparkling white sands and crystal-clear waters, they seem perfectly idyllic, until one day in May, three bodies wash up on shore. At first glance the deaths appear accidental, but as the identities of the victims come to light, Commissaire Dupin is pulled back into action for a case of what seems to be cold-blooded murder.

Ever viewed as an outsider in a region full of myths and traditions, Dupin finds himself drawn deep into the history of the land. To get to the bottom of the case, he must tangle with treasure hunters, militant marine biologists, and dangerous divers. The investigation leads him further into the perilous, beautiful world of Glénan, as he discovers that there's more to the picturesque islands than meets the eye.

Steeped in the enchanting atmosphere of Brittany and peppered with wry humor, Murder on Brittany Shores is a superbly plotted mystery that marks the return of Jean-Luc Bannalec's international bestselling series starring the cantankerous, coffee-swigging Commissaire Dupin.

Prussian Blue is the 12th in the Bernie Gunther series by Philip Kerr. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK. I've read and quite enjoyed the first few in this series, and really do need to find time to read more of them.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01INGSYQO

Spoiler:
Quote:
The twelfth book in the Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling series, perfect for fans of John le Carre and Robert Harris. 'One of the greatest anti-heroes ever written' Lee Child

France, 1956. Bernie Gunther is on the run. If there's one thing he's learned, it's never to refuse a job from a high-ranking secret policeman. But this is exactly what he's just done. Now he's a marked man, with the East German Stasi on his tail.

Fleeing across Europe, he remembers the last time he worked with his pursuer: in 1939, to solve a murder at the Berghof, Hitler's summer hideaway in the Bavarian Alps. Hitler is long dead, the Berghof now a ruined shell, and the bizarre time Bernie spent there should be no more than a distant memory.

But as he pushes on to Berlin and safety, Bernie will find that no matter how far he thinks he has put Nazi Germany behind him, for him it will always be unfinished business. The Berghof is not done with Bernie yet.

Maybe that's why this one dropped in price. Unfortunately the third one, The Fleur de Sel Murders, is still sitting at $11.99, and I just won't pay that much for a fiction e-book. So hopefully both the third and fourth will drop some day if we are patient .

Arms of Nemesis is the second in Steven Saylor's Gordianus the Finder series. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Take care - there was an omnibus of the first four titles floating around on sale a while back, although that might have been only in the UK. But check before you buy...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046H9UEA
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/arms-of-nemesis

Spoiler:
Quote:
The hideously disfigured body was found in the atrium. The only clues are a blood-soaked cloak, and, carved into the stone at the corpse's feet, the word Sparta. The murdered man was the overseer of Marcus Crassus's estate, apparently killed by two runaway slaves bent on joining Spartacus's revolt. In response to the murder, the wealthy, powerful Crassus vows to honor an ancient law and kill his ninety-nine remaining slaves in three days. Now Gordianus the Finder has been summoned from Rome by a mysterious client to find out the truth about the murder before the three days are up.

Enmeshed in a world of desperate slaves and duplicitous masters, extravagant feasts and sordid secrets, Gordianus must risk all he loves, including his life, to stop a senseless slaughter-and save the very future of Rome itself.

There's a separate thread about it, but just so it isn't missed:

The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco is $2.99 at Amazon. What if Sherlock Holmes was a 14th century monk?

Quote:
The year is 1327. Franciscans in a wealthy Italian abbey are suspected of heresy, and Brother William of Baskerville arrives to investigate. When his delicate mission is suddenly overshadowed by seven bizarre deaths, Brother William turns detective. His tools are the logic of Aristotle, the theology of Aquinas, the empirical insights of Roger Bacon—all sharpened to a glistening edge by wry humor and a ferocious curiosity. He collects evidence, deciphers secret symbols and coded manuscripts, and digs into the eerie labyrinth of the abbey, where “the most interesting things happen at night.”
