Good Omens is one of my favourite books,so am looking forward to watching this.
The Trailer looks great & the cast has some excellent actors in it.

Will also be having a re read before broadcast. BBC Radio did a good adaptation a couple of years ago too.

I just saw the trailer. I don't think I know it. Must have been caught in the misused titles.

I'm almost to the end of the unabridged audiobook now. The BBC production follows the book quite well. It is more faithful than the 1984 film.

I enjoyed it, but not as much as "The Night Manager", which was superb.

On the whole it's because the entire series will be the output of a single writer or very small writing team, and all the episodes will be filmed and complete before the series is shown on TV.

So all the episodes of a UK TV series are essential, and there are no 'filler' episodes by guest writers, or the 'B' writing team that do not advance the plot or character development in any significant way.

I'd also make a distinction between TV series that tell a specific story (eg a book adaptation), and those which are simply episodic in nature. An adaptation of a book should tell the story in as few episodes are necessary to do the job properly, whereas an episodic series (eg something like "Death in Paradise" - a police series set on a Caribbean island) can essentially go on as long as it has fresh stories to tell.

I know it may get me chased off the board, but I remember not really caring for Good Omens. I haven't read any other Pratchett novels and while I like Neil Gaiman, I do think he's over-rated.

While I'm kicking sacred cows, I never could manage to get into The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy either.

It's OK. Not everyone can have good taste and a sense of humour.

Reading HHGttG, I’d agree. I think it’s best as an audio experience; the TV and film were spoilt for me as I found myself speaking the dialogue a beat before the soundtrack.

I liked Good Omens, but I didn’t care much for much of Discworld - but it’s probably because I don’t find slapstick funny. I preferred the City Watch and Unseen University to the rest.

Gaiman I enjoy, but he can be a bit hit-or-miss.

True. However, there are a few other things available only on Prime that I've been meaning to check out. Good Omens would be more of a tipping point than a sole reason. (The main thing is that I'll confess to wanting to get into the resulting conversations about the adaptation on a timely basis.)

From the Radio Times web-page (https://www.radiotimes.com/news/on-d...ime-video-bbc/)

"All six hour-long episodes of the series are set to be released on Amazon Prime Video globally on Friday 31st May 2019.

According to Gaiman it will then air weekly on BBC2 in the UK around six months later (as it is a co-production between Amazon and the BBC). That’s expected to be followed by terrestrial TV broadcasts around the world."

Um...DVD needs to go the way of the dodo. It's low resolution and the time has come for DVD to go away. Blu-Ray is what should replace DVD and UHD DVD should replace Blu-Ray. And the prices should be adjusted as well so Blu-ray gets DVD prices and no longer come with a DVD and UHD DVD should get Blu-Ray prices.
