I'm always looking for deals even though I have hundreds of books and it would take like 4 or 5 years to read them all! Gotta stop!

Three books came up on my wish list today, and I've bought all three (£0.99 each). But because I've only been buying sensibly the rest of the month, I'm STILL ahead of the start of the year!
I might, just, be getting the hang of this! |

I find making a reading list has helped curve the urge to keep buying books. I made a nice list and determined to read all of H.P Lovecrafts work on top of that, which I own. My reading list will probably take most of the year to read.
I watched Birdbox on Netflix that everyone is raving about and seeing how the monsters are based on HP Lovecrafts monsters I and intrigued and want to read his stuff now. A scene in the movie shows where someone drew the monsters he saw and they are defiantly Lovecraft's. At least I recognize 1 as his |

The end of January, and it's looking like 9 out, 8 in for me. I've decided to leave the monthly deal I've had my eye on all month, which is kind of out of character.
In reality, though, I guess I'm only really delighted with 1 of the 8 acquisitions, so maybe I should keep a tighter rein. It breaks down like this (5 purchases, 2 freebies, 1 loan): - Books 2 & 3 in a series I started in December and liked. I don't begrudge these, but I'm not in a huge hurry to read them. Bought now because they were on offer. - Books 1 & 2 in a new fantasy series. Probably good, but realistically I have enough fantasy to last me. Bought now because they were on offer. - A freebie from the Amazon First Reads programme. I'm fairly indifferent to this one. I normally don't bother, but this was by an author I've previously read. - A free short. I read this one immediately, and it didn't do much for me, but I guess the net effect is nothing. - A wish-list book that dropped in price. This is the one I'm pleased about. I've heard good things and hope to read it soon. - An indie SF book from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library. This is just to use up my monthly loan. Could be good. Could be bad. |

Monthly roundup: 14 out, 8 in, net TBR reduction of 6!
At that rate it'll be exactly January 31st 2033 that my TBR reaches zero. ![]() I did also buy one 'previously read' book to fill in a gap in a series. And five books for my wife - but genuinely for my wife: five non-fiction books that I have no interest in reading. And I did discard one purchased book from my TBR. But on the whole, a good start to the year! |

42 in, 11 out for this month.
Of the addtions, about half the books came from 2 Storybundles. All but one of the rest are filling out series I'm focused on this year. So crappy start to year as far as purchasing, but I can't complain about finishing 10 books (some books I own both audio and ebook due to whispersync, so technically more than 10). ADDED: my totals don't include the KU books that are filling in my 87th Precinct books. Last edited by Tarana; 02-01-2019 at 04:35 PM. |

15 new in Calibre, 15 read. Sounds like I'm doing fairly well. BUT, there's a catch. Of those 15 read? 11 are re-reads, so I've my TBR is going in the wrong direction by a substantial amount. Sigh. I don't mind the re-reads, but I need to get the TBR under control. The only good news in all this? My cost per book is about a buck, US. That part, I can live with. But overall, I need to stop getting new books if I'm not going to read them right away.

I am a sucker for non fiction. Today’s daily sale is science! Do I NEED all the Dummy books? Biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy?

I was tempted by those offers as well. I got the email for $3 off select ebooks. Seemed like a crock for they are all free on kindle unlimited which I have a free subscription for when I bought my new paperwhite Last edited by HLS; 02-03-2019 at 03:13 PM. |
