Thanks for this hint.
I tried now, and loading my apps through the Play Store, but unfortunately it starts freezing again.

For PDF I’m using the internal reader, it works fine for me.

What I’m installing and using are apps like OneNote, Kindle, DS Cloud, and 2 Lokal newspaper apps.
In this configuration I had no problems with my Onyx Boox Note.

Hmm should all be normal apps. Does it freeze while installing them as well? I would uninstall them one by one test for lag and then put them back. Did you remove them sideloaded before enabling the Google framework, and do you have an sdcard in your mimas by chance, if so was it also in the note?

No SD Card.
Yes I removed the sideloaded apps, because I restored to factory settings, and then installing all apps fresh from the Play Store.

Im afraid the Reader has a hardware problem.

I will try step by step installing.
While installing I have no problem, and they also working fine while using. The speed of the reader is fine (not as the Boox Note, which was really slow at the end).

The behavior is, I finished my reading, and closed it with the sleep cover.
Then I wake up with the cover, and I see the Homescreen is freezed. Then just possible to use the PowerOn button.
But more times. 1st powerOn, freezing on the power on screen (where the 5squares shown the actual working status).
Then I need to push and wait powering on 3 or 4 times again.

Really really strange. I like the reader very much, but this status is annoying me

So it only freezes when waking up from sleep and then freezes after you have to hard reboot it?

That does sound like a messed up rom or hardware problem. Get geek bench off the store (free) and see if freezes durring that benchmark. If it survives then open your top right notification panel and click on battery. In that screen click top right 3 dots and pick optimization then in the next screen touch not optimized, pick all apps and find boyue os and make it not optomized and see if that helps.

I tried also this.
The geekbench was running fine. Then I used boyue os not optimized.
It seems more stable.
But then I closed the cover, and after 20min I openend it.
I just see the homescreen with the Popup opened „Reboot / Shutdown“, but freezed, can’t chose an option. Just use the Hardware Power off Button, an here again, 3-5 times needed, that I’m come back.

I will try now the Function, not switch off WiFi in Standby.

If you can try to get it to freeze with it asleep with the cover off. The cover might be defective and constantly throwing the tablet in and out of sleep. Basically you need to try a lot of things so you have this thread to reference back to if you have to rma it. But yeah I would leave it alone open after you manually sleep it with the power button for 30 minutes and see if it does the freeze.

I try it without cover.
That’s really bad thing, 450€, and a Reader which works not fine.

One question, is it on your likebook also, when you pushing at the front or back-Panel beside the Power button, than the reader goes into sleep.

Is this a normal function or a bug ?

I only have a Mars not a Mimas. But your saying if you squeeze your bezel area near the power button it acts as if pressing it? That would not be normal I'm pretty sure. Having some give to the back due to the battery not being flush could be though. My mars has the battery flush so no give, someone who has a mimas will have to chime in on that.

Yes, you understand right.

When I push the bezel, then the Reader goes off and on.

Yeah don't think that is normal. I would contact your seller about it. A few of the first batch has had some qc issues so far.

Since both share the same screen and stylus tech maybe they would just work and i heard the pdf experience in the Onix devices are pretty good.

In any case I guess the first step would be to get root access to the device in order to be able to make core changes. I'm investigating a bit but it seems that it gonna take some effort to port existing methods for this chip into this device.

In any case i think the same. The PDF experience is subpar ATM and the palm rejection is a must and it needs better export experience.

It's a pitty Boyue doesn't have a proper support and most of the root fiddling stuff is in chinese only forums.
At least they are updating the firmware regulary (or so it seems) Lets see how far they go.
You just read my mind, I was kind of looking up where to find ports of the onyx or maybe sony apks, with no success.
Palm rejection and exporting are software issues, so I think there is hope. This device has a lot of potential, Imagine if we could have an app like Squid (not sponsored mention, but I kind of love it) matching the smoothness of the native notes app on the Mimas.
I was also fiddling around with the files stored in the device, It looks like the notes app saves a png copy of the notes (1/4 resolution), and something like a vector file I guess. The pdf annotating app doesn't save any pngs of the annotations, it just saves some xml files which I guess are the vector files to be stamped on the pdf, no idea if someone can reverse engineer those and make the pdf handwritten exports usable.
I wish there was a developer who could take the lead and give us (onyx, sony, boyue running android 6.0) some good eink optimized app with next to native latency... hell I'd do it myself if I knew how to.
For now, I think we have to wait for the promised PDF palm rejection update, as it seems pretty high in the request list of Mimas owners, and keep track of usage as they seem quite receptive to consumers' requests.

As a developer (though not mobile/Android), this is how I understand the whole topic. Each manufacturer (Sony, Onyx, Remarkable, etc.) creates an SDK targeting their own devices that lets applications make use of "note taking e-ink"-specific capabilities like super responsive drawing with a stylus. These SDKs supposedly depend on certain hardware/firmware, so that's why every vendor has their own (but who knows, if they got together perhaps they could create a unified SDK).

As a result, I think:
- It's just not possible to use APKs from other vendors, because they may rely on certain runtime components/firmware that aren't present on your device.
- Standard, non-e-ink-aware applications like One Note and Squid are not ever going to be fast on any e-ink device unless their developers create versions that use the aforementioned SDKs, and, let's be honest, that is not happening any time soon.
- There isn't going to be a single e-ink optimized note-taking application working perfectly across all devices without a unified SDK

Again, I'm not an Android programmer, so I might have got this wrong.

Warning concerning the note app: if you took notes and did not change to another app so they are saved, when the device does it's auto power down, the notes are lost. So be careful and remember to save them or set the auto power down timer to very high.
