Convert vs Polish Book Metadata Issue
I'm not sure what exactly is different, but metadata doesn't seem to fully take when I polish books, but does if I convert them.
An Example I'm seeing this with is when I look at all books by Author in FBReader. I have books that no matter how many times I run them through the polish function, they do not get sorted into their series. They're showing up under the Author, but not the Series. If I convert the book (epub -> epub), it then shows it with the series information. In all these cases, all the metadata is correct within Calibre. Any ideas on what I can do to get the polish function to work so I don't have to convert everything like this? |

Can you see the metadata in the calibre viewer, press Ctrl/I in the viewer? Please you provide screen shots of your Polish Book settings, Report, and log, see attachments. You might also want to try the Embed metadata feature, you will probably need to add it to a toolbar, menu or set a keyboard shortcut for it. And/or try Modify optional plugin, it has relevant features of Polish. BR |

Series is not a Dublin core field. If your device uses that
![]() Yoy might use the plugboard to insert series into a common field upon transfer {series}-{series_index}-{title} -> {title} is a common usage |

My guess, FBReader relies on uuid to identify books. Polishing doesn't change the uuid so FBReader doesn't update its metadata cache when you use polish but recognizes converted books (with different uuid) as new.

Maybe the following discussion about uuid is relevant ==>> https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=314516

It's definitely not the uuid, as I've completely wiped out FBReader in case it was some sort of cache. (cleared its cache and data, and deleted any related directory for it)
When I looked at the books that don't show as being part of the series, or show up as unknown author (another example) I think I see the difference in the structure of the epub. On the ones that show up correctly, all the html files are in the root of the epub, but in the ones that don't they're in a sub folder. So I think this may be an issue with FBreader specifically, but I'm still curious to find out what's happening. |

conversion is designed to make various changes to EPUB files to ensure they work with the widest range of buggy readers possible. SO a converted EPUB will generally work with more software than a polished one.
