You're welcome Mihail_bc, I hope it helps.
![]() I have a couple questions about the built-in reading app and also about fonts... First of all, does anyone know what the built-in Boyue reading app is based on? In my previous Boyue ereader, the built-in reading apps were FB2 Reader and Adobe, and the user could set either one of those as the default. (You could use outside Android apps of course, but couldn't set one as the default.) The reason I'm curious is because the Boyue reading app on the Likebook Mimas seems to have snappier page turns than the outside apps I've tried, but it does a terrible job with punctuation -- too much of a space before the period at the end of a sentence; breaking up I and 've at a line break -- that sort of thing. Those are the kind of bugs I remember about Adobe and the reason I always used FB2 Reader as the default app in my Boyue T62+. It rendered so much better than Adobe... so I'm surprised the Mimas only has one built-in reading app and seems to be the poorer of the two they went with previously. One positive about the Boyue reading app on the Mimas is that they don't have a lot of pre-installed fonts, which I find aggravating to scroll through to get to the ones I actually like. Which brings me to my next question about deleting fonts: I am using AlReader because of the previously mentioned issues with the built-in app, but it has a ton of pre-installed fonts that I have to scroll through (in a difficult to read pop-up window) before I can get to the fonts I like that I put into the sdcard/fonts folder. When I look in the 'fonts' folder, I don't see any fonts other than the ones I placed there, and when I look in the AlReader folder, I don't see any fonts. Does anybody know where those fonts might be and how I can remove them? I have been unable to find any suggestions, instructions, or even a discussion about this. (Maybe I'm the only person who cares to delete the fonts I don't like and will never use, but what can I say?, it bugs me.) I have wanted to do the same for the built-in FB2 Reader app on my older device also, so if anyone knows how I can do that too, please let me know. Perhaps it is only possible on a rooted device though? In which case I will have to pass on that. |

You might be seeing the root, /system/fonts. You can't touch that without root access as it's not r/w and only r/o.

I wish reading apps let you just delete fonts you don't like and will never use as you are reading in the app and trying sampling the fonts. For example, fonts with Chinese characters that just clutter up the list, or fonts that are so light I can't actually read them.

Oh well. I don't think any apps allow that. I was just hoping there was some way to remove them, and I thought I would ask since there are so many smart and tech-oriented posters here. ![]() |

Since both share the same screen and stylus tech maybe they would just work and i heard the pdf experience in the Onix devices are pretty good. In any case I guess the first step would be to get root access to the device in order to be able to make core changes. I'm investigating a bit but it seems that it gonna take some effort to port existing methods for this chip into this device. In any case i think the same. The PDF experience is subpar ATM and the palm rejection is a must and it needs better export experience. It's a pitty Boyue doesn't have a proper support and most of the root fiddling stuff is in chinese only forums. At least they are updating the firmware regulary (or so it seems) Lets see how far they go. |

I think 15h onscreen time, if you are taking notes are achievable. Even more in reading. I doubt the promised 24h on AliExpress are justified.
I have the device since yesterday and played around with some settings, installed and uninstalled various apps, took notes, downloaded stuff, used the browser and currently battery is at 71%. I think battery life should not be an issue with this thing. Especially when comparing it to Lenovo yogas and note taking on them. I'll post an update, when University starts again and I will use this thing for a whole day. Last edited by Siggy1000; 02-01-2019 at 01:27 PM. |

System crash problems:
Has anybody problems with instability of the Reader? I’ve installed manually some reading APK Apps, because the Play Store is not available. It seems after that the system is sometimes not working fine. After waking up from standby it stucks. I need to push many times the power on button, that I come back to the homescreen. I don't have any specific stats for you, but I am satisfied with battery life so far. It doesn't seem to be draining unusually fast or anything. Quote:
My T62+ performed flawlessly for most of the last four years... until I installed all those reading apps and messed it up. I've already uninstalled all but 1 outside reading app, after trying maybe eight or ten, but that didn't fix the problem. There are people here who are much more aggressive than me when it comes to installing apps on their Android ereaders... but I feel like my ereaders are optimized for the built-in apps, and I try to use only a small curated number of outside apps. Right now it's AlReader for reading, and although I like Music Folder Player, I will probably just uninstall it at some point and use the built-in player since it seems to work well enough for my needs. I will say that it was easier to avoid using other reading apps with my T62+, because that version of the Boyue reading app was based on FBReader 2 and was much better. It didn't have the annoying punctuation issues the Mimas/Boyue reading app has. In case you're interested, these are the APKs I have installed on my Mimas - Alreader; Big Font Change; ES file explorer; Fora dict; and Music Folder Player. ALReader is the reading app I've been using and Fora Dict is the dictionary app that I use with it. I haven't notice any problems with my system using these apps. I don't know if that helps you at all. I hope you get your issues resolved! ![]() |
