there are lots of ways that integrating the two distribution models could provide a much richer overall book buying experience for everyone.

Last week sometime, I think it was last week, Barnes and Noble sent me an email (being that I am one of their members) asking me to do a survey in return for a 10% off coupon, so I did it.... Most of the survey pertained to how I used digital ebooks, what formats I preferred, and where I got them from, etc. I was encouraged at the time that I was contributing (albeit, in a very small way) to their consumer research about ebooks and how they might decide to implement that into their business modal. |

Is the world starting to move awfully fast for anyone else? The expansion of possibilities is exceeding the capacity of my mind.

Quite .... Amazon, by way of the Kindle, have a 'captive' audience (even if it doesn't include most of the world) ... what better way to maintain that, but to drive out/or buy the competition - they may have considered the price worth it ? (I used to like Amazon.co.uk - until they (badly) let me down).

Isn't fictionwise supposed to be coming out with their own branded reader supporting the ereader format? Seems if B&N plays this right they could very quickly get a Kindle like product to market with a ready made online store and a brick and morter distribution point for the device. B&N gives fictionwise more clout with the carriers if they choose to go that route. I know Amazon has a huge presence, but my local B&N is typically not hurting for business. There is almost always a wait in the checkout line even with multiple cashiers. Some people still like the experience of walking around a book store. |

for people without liseuses with some of wireless connection (remember, not everyone has or wants that) a kiosk or terminal would allow them to enjoy this sort of experience with ebooks.

the times are very interesting, after lying in the doldrums (for what - 10 years?), life for the ebook, and a multitude of reader choice, is seemingly and suddenly taking off....

I would much rather walk around and enjoy the bookshop - then come home and pick/choose from a larger etailer base - where one can pick and choose the price....whilst also ensuring that a back-up copy was placed on my PC....
